Resumen rápido

Where and how to get each companion in Fisch, what each ability does, how companions level to 10 and which ones help most on hard fish.

Fisch companions: how they work

Companions arrived in version 1.81, and many of their wiki pages are still stubs. This guía lists how the wiki says you can get each Fisch companion, what its ability does and how companions level. Everything is from the Fisch Fandom wiki (read on octubre 24, 2026), and we flag where the wiki is thin. We haven't tamed any of these ourselves.

The basics:

- You receive the Companion Satchel at level 30, according to the 1.81.0 notas del parche, and pick a companion that fits your style.
- Companions level from 1 to 10, and a higher level gives small buffs to their abilities.
- Each companion has quirks, and the notas del parche say you can interact with all of them in different ways.

The wiki's main page gives conflicting counts ("14 available companions" and "currently 18"), and its list has 20 names. Treat any total you read as approximate.

## How to level a companion

The wiki lists these Companion XP sources:

| Action | Companion XP |
|---|---|
| Catching a fish | +10 |
| Interacting with the companion | +5 (up to 10 between catches) |
| Walking the companion for 10 seconds | +1 (up to 20 between catches) |
| Using a Companion Candy | +1,500 |

Companion Candy comes from crew daily and weekly quests as a rare prize, and it isn't always in stock. One exception: Smudge levels through S$ instead.

## Companion details

Nico. While idle, every 30 seconds (15 at max level) there is a 30% chance Nico brings you a fish with the Nico's Nyantics mutation (listed at 5x). Every 10 seconds there's a 2% chance it tugs you. There's a secret skin for finishing all of the Crazy Cat Lady's quests and giving her a Shiny Harmonized Catfish.

Penguin Pal. Every 4 seconds while fishing there's a 15% chance (20% at max level) to freeze the fish for 4 seconds (6 at max), with a 6-second cooldown. Mosswaddler works the same way with different numbers: every 5 seconds a 20% chance (40% at max) to freeze the fish for 3 seconds (7 at max), 6-second cooldown.

Gary 'Gator. The wiki says its ability acts as a piercing enchant. Every 10 seconds it has a 2% chance (4% at max) to attempt an instant bite worth 50% progress (60% at max), and an 80% chance of a small bite worth 5% progress. To get him: have foggy weather, equip a Fish Head (Legendary bait), go to the boat with the alligator abundance, cast, and let Gary follow the lure until he touches the hook.

Plunderbeak. It gives a 20% chance for the Golden mutation (2x) at level 10 and raises rare drops from treasure chests, which the wiki calls optimal when you are trying to unlock the Sunken Rod. To get it you need the entire Forsaken Shores bestiary completed, at least 10 treasure chests opened and the Scurvy Rod equipped. Then stand on the rock behind the Skin Merchant until a Plunderbeak flies down.

Silly Seal. This is the one the wiki recommends for hard fish, since it can add progress to fish with locked progress speed and passive-blocked fish. It has a hunger meter that maxes at 120, and you can't feed it at 110 or above. Feeding raises hunger by rarity: Trash +1, Common +2, Uncommon +5, Unusual +6, Rare +7, Legendary +12, Mythical +14, Exotic +20, Secret +90 and Divine Secret +200. Hunger falls by 0.2 per second (0.05 at max level). When hunger is at 60 (or 1 at max level) it grants +8% progress every 1.5 to 3 seconds, with a 10% chance to steal the hooked fish and double the hunger from it. It can't steal Mythical or higher, and the wiki says it can't grant progress on Divine Secret fish or the limited Redlip Batfish. You can't feed it Exotic or Divine Secret fish to tame it.

Tropical Toucan. In the Lost Jungle, find the studs on tree roots, equip Lost Jungle bait and feed it. Rarer bait means a better chance to tame it. When equipped, it scouts the water each time you cast and attempts to grant a luck and fish-size boost for 30 seconds, then dives for bait that depends on your location.

Mutated Sharky. In The Depths, an Absolute Darkness event has a 50% chance to show a glowing green Mutated Sharky. Cast with Fish Head bait and wait. The wiki warns that if any fish hooks, Sharky is scared off, so a rod with a low Lure Speed is recommended. Hold E when it's close. Its passive has a 5% chance (10% at max) to change progress speed for 5 seconds and a 10% chance (25% at max) to summon a whirlpool to The Depths.

Beak Bill. A white pelican that brings fish from any area you've fished before, including mutaciones from your rod and enchants, and sometimes extra bait. It sometimes falls asleep for a minute or two.

Ollie Otter. It's found at the White Bass abundance on Terrapin Island. Feed it a very light fish, like an anchovy or sardine. It gives double luck to find rare items and sometimes spawns another fish (trash, or a special item 5% of the time).

Smudge. From the Companion Dealer at the Shady Bazaar for 25 S$. It periodically fishes up a fish with the Sludged mutation (2.5x), most of them trash, and poisons the fish you reel in.

Relic Construct. The wiki says it can be obtained at the Keeper's Altar after giving it a relic, appearing more often during a Power Burst, and that the chance depends on which relic you give. Relics can then be given to it to buff you. The wiki's table of what each relic unlocks:

| Relic given | Level needed | Buff |
|---|---|---|
| Enchant Relic | 1 | +20% XP |
| Exalted Relic | 3 | +10% luck, +10% Resilience, +10% fish weight |
| Cosmic Relic | 5 | +3% Shiny/Sparkling, +3% forced progress speed |
| Invincible Relic | 6 | +100 durability |
| Twisted Relic | 8 | 50% chance every 2 seconds to stab for +2% progress |
| Song of the Deep | 9 | +5% True Progress Speed |
| Sovereign Relic | 10 | +10% Sovereign mutation chance plus small stat boosts |

Limited relics and the Admin Relic can't be given to it.

Idol Taiga. This was the first companion for the Skycrest update. It sacrifices low-rarity fish to a fire for Idol XP, spears nearby fish and boosts Charm effects. You find it near the Ancient Idol Statues during Tropical Squall weather, feed it fireflies (the Gombak Bent-Winged, Blue Ghost, Loopy Five or plain Firefly), and the rarer the firefly, the better the odds. You also need a certain Idol Level. There's a toggle to stop it burning fish.

Budling. The wiki says it came in version 2.01 on septiembre 13, 2026, though the Skycrest page gives septiembre 5 (version 2.0.0) for Skycrest and says it arrived in the Budling update, and the Idol Taiga page says septiembre 6, so exact dates are loose. It spawns near the Moosewood mirror portal inside The Living Garden; use Sundial Totems to speed up time until it appears. Talk to it, accept the escort, and walk it along the wooden logs to the Gardener without slipping into the water. Its passives help with rare seeds, Nectar Bait, seed growth time and day-only fish.

## Which companion should you pick first?

The wiki doesn't rank them, so this is our reading of the numbers.

- Hard or locked-progress fish: Silly Seal first. Gary 'Gator, Penguin Pal and Mosswaddler are the freeze and burst options.
- Extra money: Plunderbeak (a 20% chance of Golden 2x at level 10) and Nico (a 30% chance of a 5x Nyantics fish every 15 to 30 seconds while idle).
- Simplest to get on paper: Smudge, which is a flat 25 S$ from the Companion Dealer, and Beak Bill, which turns up on beaches and docks but wants a big fish such as a Kraken or an Olympian Devil.
