Candle guide

The Candle is the item that proves the Rift is more than storage: it was the first item in the game that can be transformed there. Put it in Guiding Light's rift and it comes out as the Moonlight Candle, which also detects some entities.

On its own, the plain Candle has no shop price. You pick it up from tables in The Hotel or get it from Louie in The Mines. It is a Radius Light Source and a Dependant Item, so it must be lit every time you equip it, with a Lighter (which costs 2 seconds of its fuel), a Hotel fireplace or a flaming barrel in The Mines.

After The Mines Update

Its durability dropped from 120 seconds to 75 seconds, and it stopped detecting entities, a role handed to the Moonlight Candle, in exchange for a larger light radius. The model in your hand visibly shortens as the fuel falls.

Pros and cons

  • Works in The Rooms, unlike the Moonlight Candle.
  • A lit Candle does not blow you up in a Firedamp room, unlike a Lighter.
  • It stops working while wet or underwater.
  • Gloombats are drawn to it, and it vanishes when its fuel runs out.
