Lockpick guide

Skip the key. That is how The Hotel's Pre-Run Shop pitches the Lockpick, and in The Mines the same stall rewrites it as "find hidden loot". It costs 100 Gold at Jeff's Shop or 50 Knobs in the Pre-Run Shop, and you can hold up to three.

It opens most locked doors and locked chests, lockers and toolboxes without their matching key, and it also opens the entrance to The Archives. It can stand in for a fuse in a Generator; the first time you do that you earn the "Improvise" achievement. It does not work on gates, The Library doors or skeleton doors.

When to spend one

The wiki recommends it where finding a key is painful: dark rooms and rooms with many sub-rooms, since less time in the dark lowers the odds of a Screech. It also opens the Circuit Breaker Room door in The Electrical Room, even without opening the gate, which makes the room a hiding place once Figure starts a chase.

History

It used to cost 150 Gold before The Modifiers Update and 50 Gold before SUPER HARD MODE. The Pre-Run Shop once warned it "May break at any time", but the wiki says it never breaks unless used.
