Grow a Garden 2 Pets: Every Egg, Hatch Rate and Ability

Guide

Quick Summary

Hatch rates for the Common Egg, how Big, Mega and Rainbow variants change each ability, which pets come from guilds and Halloween, and where wild pets spawn.

Pets in Grow a Garden 2 are companions that follow the player and add a passive ability to the garden: more walk speed, faster growth, better mutation odds, extra defense or free fruit. Some are trivial to hatch and some have odds below a quarter of a percent. This guide lists the hatch rates the wiki publishes, what each pet does, how Big, Mega and Rainbow variants scale the effect, and every other way to get a pet.

Where pets come from

  • Eggs. The Common Egg is the main hatchable egg. The wiki lists its sources as weekly guild rewards, the Auction Stand and a giveaway site, rather than a normal shop. Big, Rainbow and Mega versions come from weekly guild rewards or the Admin Chest.
  • Wild pets. Pets spawn around the map with a countdown timer and can be bought with Sheckles before the timer ends.
  • Guild rewards. The Black Dragon and the Phoenix are weekly guild competition rewards.
  • Store eggs. The Exclusive Harvest Egg and Exclusive Halloween Egg are Store items.
  • Gifts. Pets can be dropped and handed to other players, although rare and higher pets cannot be gifted or mailed.

Common Egg hatch rates

These are the wiki's odds for one hatch.

TurtleRare13.1086%+10 backpack space, but walk speed drops by 2
RobinLegendary3.3708%Eats ripe fruit and sometimes drops seeds
BeeLegendary3.3708%Patrols and swarms intruders
UnicornMythic0.2247%Doubles the chance of Rainbow on plants and fruit
Golden DragonflyMythic0.2247%Doubles the chance of Gold
MonkeyMythic0.2247%Picks ripe fruit and brings it to you
BearMythic0.2247%Tackles intruders and throws them away
FireflyMythic0.2247%Makes everyone's newly planted crops bigger
RaccoonSuper0.1498%Steals fruit at night and raises the steal limit by 25

The Eggs page also lists the Dog at 0.2247%, but the Dog's own entry points to the Fall eggs and marks it unobtainable, so it is left out. The Epic Egg that older guides quote (60% Deer) is no longer on the wiki's egg list and is flagged unobtainable.

The odds work out to a clear shape. About 45% of hatches are Frog or Bunny, and only about 1.3% are Mythic or higher. A Raccoon takes an average of about 670 hatches (1 divided by 0.001498), and each of the other Mythic pets about 445.

Big, Mega and Rainbow variants

Variants are rolled when a pet hatches, and they stack because size and Rainbow are independent rolls.

  • Big roughly doubles the pet's size and doubles its passive. Chance in the Common Egg is 2% (1 in 50).
  • Mega quadruples the size and triples the passive. Chance is 0.1% (1 in 1,000).
  • Rainbow adds a flat x1.25 to the base ability. The roll is 0.5% in the Common Egg, 5% in the Exclusive Harvest and Halloween eggs, and 100% in the Rainbow eggs.
PetNormalBigMegaMega Rainbow
Bunny (walk speed)+5+10+15+18.75
Deer (growth speed)+10%+20%+30%+37.5%
Unicorn (Rainbow chance)x2x3x4x4.75
Raccoon (steal limit)+25+50+100+110
Turtle (backpack space)+10+50+100+120

For wild pets the wiki only says that if spawn rates matched the egg chances, Big would be 1 in 50 and Mega 1 in 1,000.

Best pets for the economy

  • Unicorn and Golden Dragonfly. Their effects multiply the chance of the two most common high-value mutations, so they pay off most with multi-harvest crops. See the mutations guide for the single-harvest penalty.
  • Firefly. Bigger newly planted crops for everyone, and the bonus is not limited to the owner.
  • Deer and Butterfly. The Deer adds 10% growth speed; the Butterfly, a Legendary wild pet, adds 3% for everyone.
  • Monkey. Picks ripe fruit and delivers it, useful for large gardens.
  • Phoenix. Every 30 minutes it burns down the smallest fully grown plant and replants it at a brand-new random size, which can be bigger or smaller. Big takes 24 minutes and Mega 18.
  • Black Dragon. Eats ripe fruit with a 3.5% chance each second and an 8-second cooldown, then lays an egg after eating 8 fruit. The egg hatches into a pet based on the fruit eaten.

Which pets to aim for first

A new account hatching Common Eggs will mostly see Frog, Bunny, Owl and Deer. Of these, only the Deer improves the farm directly, with 10% faster growth. The Bunny and Frog are movement pets that help with reaching shops and escaping a Shovel. The Turtle's extra backpack space suits big harvests, but the slower walk speed hurts during night raids. Keep the Deer equipped first, and use the slot from the first upgrade (200,000 Sheckles) for whichever Mythic pet drops.

Halloween pets (Ghoul Garden)

The Exclusive Halloween Egg has a Secret rarity. Hatch odds are Gargoyle 50.24%, Skeleton Horse 39.88%, Dire Wolf 9.47% and Frank 0.39%, with Big 10%, Mega 0.1% and Rainbow 5%.

  • Gargoyle: perches still and may turn a thief to stone.
  • Skeleton Horse: hunts skeleton monsters on its own.
  • Dire Wolf: summons a bigger pack of wild animals on a moon and has a 3% chance to start a Blood Moon when it howls.
  • Frank: chains lightning to 3 more fruit every 90 seconds.
  • Mummy (Super, wild, 0.034% spawn, 30,000,000 Candy Corn): gives a 1% chance, up to a 25% cap, to copy any wild pet anyone brings home, for up to five copies a day.

Wild pets and how to find them

Wild pets are bought with Sheckles (or Candy Corn in the Ghoul Garden) before the timer expires. The Raccoon has a 0.24% chance to spawn on the main map and costs 5,000,000 Sheckles.

Three Robux gears help with finding them. The Legendary, Mythic and Super Pet Teleporters (33, 266 and 666 Robux) send the player to a server that has a wild pet of that rarity, and the item is only used up if the pet is there. The Owl hoots when a rare pet spawns, and the Necromancer Staff (5,000,000 Candy Corn) claims every wild pet on the map for free. The Pet Lure items are marked unobtainable.

Pet equip slots can be upgraded three times for 200,000, 1,000,000 and 5,000,000 Sheckles.

Common mistakes

  • Treating the Epic Egg as current. It is not on the egg list now.
  • Buying wild pets without checking the ability. A Fat Cat or Bunny is cheap but adds nothing to income.
  • Expecting Big or Mega to change sell values. Variants strengthen the pet's ability, not what the pet sells for.
  • Equipping several copies of a pet whose effect does not stack. Check each ability before filling slots.
  • Gifting rare pets. Rare and higher pets cannot be mailed or gifted.
