Quick Summary

How to get the Shadow Dragon and Black Dragon in Grow a Garden 2: spawn, Cornucopia and Harp odds, guild placements that pay a Black Dragon, and what each ability does.

The Shadow Dragon and the Black Dragon are the two dragon pets people keep searching for in Grow a Garden 2, and they are in very different situations. The Shadow Dragon came from the Fall Harvest map with a 0.00464% chance, and the wiki now marks it Unobtainable. The Black Dragon is a Super pet handed out as a Guild Rewards prize. This guide explains how to get each one, what each ability really does, and the odds math behind them.

A quick honesty note. We did not play-test any of this. Everything comes from the Grow a Garden 2 Fandom wiki: the Shadow Dragon page (last edited September 30, 2026), the Black Dragon page, the Guilds, Harp, Cornucopia Quests, Mutations and Pets pages. The wiki disagrees with itself in a few places, and we point those out instead of picking a side.

How to get the Shadow Dragon

The wiki gives three routes, and all of them belonged to the Fall Harvest, the temporary map that opened on August 2, 2026. The Fall Harvest page (last edited October 8) says the map stays for 60 days and is then removed. The Shadow Dragon and Harp pages (both edited September 30) and the Cornucopia Quests page (September 7) each carry an Unobtainable tag. We cannot see inside the game, so this is the wiki's view and not a live check.

Route 1: wild spawn

The Shadow Dragon had a 0.00464% chance to spawn anywhere on the Fall Harvest map, and you bought it for 30,000,000 Leaf. Leaf was the Fall Harvest currency, earned by selling crops and pets or stealing. At 0.00464%, the odds are about 1 in 21,500 per roll (100 divided by 0.00464 is roughly 21,552). The wiki does not say how often the game rolled, so we cannot convert that into hours.

Route 2: Cornucopia

Cornucopia quest rewards in the Fall Harvest had a pets category, and the Shadow Dragon was the last row of that list at 0.15%. That 0.15% is the chance inside the pet category. The wiki does not give the chance of landing on the pet category in the first place, so the true chance per roll is lower than 0.15%. We explain the whole reward table in our Cornucopia guide.

Route 3: the Harp

The Harp gear spawned 5 random pets from a pool. On the Fall Harvest pool, the Shadow Dragon had a 0.00395% chance per pet. With five spawns per use, one Harp gives you about 5 times that, 0.01975%, so roughly 1 in 5,000 Harps (this is our arithmetic from the wiki's number). The Harp itself cost 250,000 Leaf or 179 Robux and only appeared in the Gear Shop with an 8% restock chance. The full Harp tables are in the Cornucopia and Harp guide.

What the Shadow Dragon ability does

The Shadow Dragon flies around your gardens and has a chance to apply the Veil mutation when you plant a seed. The Shadow Dragon page lists the chance by variant:

VariantVeil chance per planted seed
Normal10%
Big20%
Mega30%
Rainbow12.5%
Big Rainbow25%
Mega Rainbow37.5%

Here is where the wiki disagrees. The Mutations page says the Veil chance is 5% when planting, and it also says you must have the Shadow Dragon equipped. The Shadow Dragon page and the Pets table say 10%. We use the Shadow Dragon page for the table above because it is the pet's own page and it is the one with the full variant list, but if you read 5% somewhere, that is the Mutations page.

How much does Veil matter? The Mutations page gives it a 20x multiplier, the same as Amber and stronger than Gold (10x), but below Rainbow (30x). Take a rough view with the 10% chance and ignore everything else that could mutate your fruit: 90% of seeds stay at 1x and 10% become 20x, which averages out to 2.9x. A Mega Shadow Dragon at 30% averages 0.7 + 6.0 = 6.7x. Those are back-of-the-envelope numbers and they assume your other fruit has no mutation, which is not how a real garden works, but they show why a 20x mutation on a plant-time roll looks strong on paper. For the full mutation list, see our mutations guide.

How to get the Black Dragon

The Black Dragon is obtained through Guild Rewards, so you need to be in a guild that competes. Guilds are run by the NPC Gilbert at the Guild Stand, next to the Sell Stand and the Props Shop. Creating a guild costs 99 Robux, but joining is free if someone invites you. A guild holds up to 50 members.

The weekly competition

Guilds compete in a weekly contest. The Guilds page says points are the weight of the plants harvested, at 1 point per gram, although several weekly contests are scored in other ways (money earned, pets tamed, eggs hatched). At the end of each weekly cycle, rewards go out by leaderboard placement through the Mailbox. The Guilds page lists a different contest each week:

WeekContestBlack Dragon in the rewards?
1Highest KgNo (Ice Serpent)
2Cash CropYes
3Biggest CarrotYes
4Big SpenderYes
5Tallest PlantYes
6Pet SafariYes
7Leaf RushYes
8Pumpkin PatchYes
9Fall Egg HatchYes
10Muffin Bake-OffYes
11Biggest PlantNo (Phoenix)

The Black Dragon page itself says it was awarded "at the end of the second and third Guild Week", which is older than the Guilds page. The Guilds page reward tables show it in weeks 2 to 10, so we trust the longer list, but the wiki does not say which weeks are live right now.

What each placement earned

The Black Dragon variant depends on how high you finish. The week 2 table reads like this, and weeks 3 to 10 use the same top positions:

PlacementBlack Dragon variant
#1Mega Rainbow
#2Mega
#3Big Rainbow
#4 to #10Big
#11 to #15Rainbow
#16 to #25Normal
#26 and belowNo dragon (seeds, eggs and packs only)

The top three spots also paid 7 to 10 Rainbow Seeds, Gold Seeds and Legendary Seed Packs each, on top of the pet. From week 7 on, the page also lists separate Elite, Mid and Open bracket tables (the update log added Guild Brackets in version 1.18.0). Those tables hold seeds, eggs and packs but no pets, and the wiki does not explain how they combine with the main table. Anyone ranked #26 or lower still got eggs and seed packs, but no dragon. Week 11 swapped the dragon for a Phoenix in the top spots, and week 1 handed out an Ice Serpent.

What the Black Dragon ability does

The Black Dragon flies around gardens eating ripe fruit and laying eggs that hatch into pets based on the fruit it ate. The Black Dragon page gives the mechanics:

  • It has a 3.5% chance per second to eat a ripe fruit, with an 8 second cooldown between eats.
  • Variants speed up eating: Big x1.25, Mega x2 and Rainbow x1.25, and they stack. A Mega Rainbow Black Dragon eats x2.5 as often.
  • After eating 8 fruit, it lays an egg after a random delay of 10 to 30 seconds.
  • The egg hatches into a pet based on the fruit it ate.

If we read the wiki literally, a Normal Black Dragon needs about 8 seconds of cooldown plus an average of 1 divided by 0.035, roughly 28.6 seconds, per fruit. That is about 36.6 seconds per fruit and about 4.9 minutes for 8, plus the 10 to 30 second lay delay, so one egg every 5 minutes or so. It is our arithmetic and it assumes the roll starts again when the cooldown ends, so treat it as a ballpark. The wiki does not say which fruit hatches into which pet, so we cannot tell you how to aim for a rare pet.

The Pets page lists different numbers for the same pet. Its variant table gives the Black Dragon's eating and egg frequency as x1.15 for Rainbow, x1.25 for Big, x1.4375 for Big Rainbow, x2 for Mega and x2.3 for Mega Rainbow, against x1.25 for Rainbow and x2.5 for Mega Rainbow on the Black Dragon page. The wiki does not say which is right.

One restriction worth knowing: for the Fall Egg Hatch guild week, the wiki says eggs from the Black Dragon do not count toward the score.

The other Super pets

The Pets page lists seven Super pets, and the dragons are only two of them:

PetAbilityHow to obtain, per the wiki

PhoenixBurns down and regrows your smallest fully grown plant every 30 minutesGuild Rewards

What should you chase?

If you want a dragon, the Black Dragon is the only one the wiki still lists as obtainable, and the route is a top 25 placement on the weekly guild leaderboard. That is a real commitment, and the wiki gives no player counts, so we cannot say how crowded the leaderboard is. The reward table does run from #1 down past #10,001. If you are not in a guild yet, you need one before the Black Dragon route is even open.

For the Shadow Dragon, we would not plan around it. The wiki tags the pet and its Harp and Cornucopia sources as Unobtainable, and the 0.00464% chance was never friendly to begin with.

What the wiki does not say

  • Which weeks of the Guild Competition are live now.
  • Which fruit hatches into which pet from a Black Dragon egg.
  • Whether the Black Dragon's Rainbow speed-up is x1.25 or x1.15.
  • How the Elite, Mid and Open bracket tables combine with the main Guild reward table.
  • The chance of landing on the pets category in a Cornucopia roll.
  • Whether the Shadow Dragon Veil chance is 5% or 10%. The pages disagree.
