Stealing is the feature that separates Grow a Garden 2 from the original. At night, any player can walk into another garden, take fruit and carry it home, and it costs nothing. The original charged Robux for each stolen crop, which is why the sequel's wiki describes free stealing as one of its biggest changes. This guide explains the exact rules, what protects a garden, what helps a thief and which situations decide most raids.
The core rules
Stealing only works at night. A full day lasts ten minutes: seven and a half minutes of day, 30 seconds of sunset and two minutes of night. When night starts, every player chooses between stealing and protecting.
- Locked gardens. If the owner is standing inside their garden, it locks and nobody can take anything. A garden that can be raided shows an unlocked icon above it.
- Retrieval. The owner can hit a thief with the Shovel to knock the stolen crop back. The Shovel is given to every player when joining.
- Carry it home. A stolen fruit only counts once the thief brings it back to their own garden. The teleport buttons are disabled while carrying, so there is no instant escape.
- Leaving ends the fight. If the owner leaves the garden while someone is stealing, the thief keeps what was taken.
- Slow crops. Bamboo and Mushrooms take three seconds to steal.
- Currency. Stealing is one of the ways to earn Candy Corn in the Ghoul Garden; in Fall Harvest the matching currency was Leaf.
The wiki lists a steal limit that the Raccoon pet raises by 25, but it does not state the base limit, so treat any specific number as unconfirmed. The wiki also suggests the game may include a movement anti-cheat.
For comparison, the original game sold each steal as a 37 Robux developer product, and a failed steal returned 100 Sheckles.
How raids usually happen
The wiki documents five common methods. Each one exploits a gap in attention, so each has a direct counter.
| Method | What the thief does | Counter |
|---|---|---|
| The Wait trick | Waits until the owner leaves to shop, sell or trade | Finish errands before night, or leave a pet or gear on guard |
| The AFK method | Looks for owners idle outside their garden | Do not stand AFK outside the gate at night |
| Immediate join snipe | Targets players who just joined and spawn outside | Walk straight into the garden after joining |
| Wheelbarrow method | Uses a friend or alternate account with a Wheelbarrow to carry the owner out | Never stand AFK near unknown players; a carried owner ends up outside the garden |
| Special night technique | Waits for a Gold or Rainbow Moon while owners hunt the seeds | Skip the seed hunt unless the garden is covered |
The last one matters most. On a Gold Moon (12.75% of nights) or Rainbow Moon (5.88%), seeds spawn on the map, and owners leaving to collect them leave gardens unlocked. Both seed types spawn in higher numbers when the server has more players.
Gears that stop thieves
| Gear | Price | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Strawberry Sniper | 13,000,000 Sheckles or 1,349 Robux | Snipes anyone stealing fruit; reusable with a 3-second cooldown |
| Gnome | 100,000 Sheckles or 95 Robux | Placed guard that damages intruders; lasts 10 minutes |
| Flashbang | 20,000 Sheckles or 67 Robux | Thrown to blind players |
| Vine Wrapper | 499 Robux | Traps a player in vines |
| Freeze Ray | 749 Robux | Freezes a player; one shop page lists it as unavailable, so check the Gear Shop |
| Power Hose | 299 Robux | Sprays a player from a distance |
| Player Magnet | 7,000,000 Sheckles or 1,149 Robux | Pulls nearby players toward you for 10 seconds |
The Crowbar (forces other gardens' doors open) and the Rake (crop protection) are both marked not obtainable on the wiki. Older guides that list them as cheap Sheckle purchases are wrong on both price and availability.
The Gnome and Flashbang are the best value for new accounts. They rotate in the Gear Shop with stock chances of 8% and 7% per restock, so they do not appear every time. The Sniper is a late purchase, but unlike the others it works repeatedly without being consumed.
Gears that help a thief
- Wheelbarrow (500,000 Sheckles or 129 Robux): carries another player, and a friend must be in the server.
- Rainbow Carpet (599 Robux): flying across the map.
- Speed Mushroom (1,500 Sheckles): temporary speed to escape a Shovel.
- Invisibility Mushroom (30,000 Sheckles): temporary invisibility, though it appears in the Gear Shop only 4% of restocks.
- The Bone (300,000 Candy Corn, Ghoul Garden): turns the player into the Werewolf for 30 seconds and lets them steal from anyone.
Pets that defend
Equipped pets act on their own, without input from the owner, which makes them the passive layer of defense.
| Pet | Rarity | Effect |
|---|---|---|
| Bear | Mythic | Tackles intruders, pins them and throws them away |
| Bald Eagle | Mythic | Snatches intruders and flies them out of the garden |
| Tarantula | Mythic | Webs players who rob or attack you and forces them to drop an item |
| Scarecrow | Mythic | Terrifies anyone who shovels you, so they cannot steal |
| Bee | Legendary | Patrols and swarms intruders |
| Bat | Legendary | Bites a thief and drops them for 2 seconds, without making them drop the fruit |
| Gargoyle | Common | Has a chance to turn a thief to stone |
Sources differ: the Bear (0.2247%) and Bee (3.3708%) hatch from the Common Egg, the Gargoyle (50.24%) from the Exclusive Halloween Egg and the Scarecrow from the Exclusive Harvest Egg, while the Bald Eagle, Tarantula and Bat are wild pets with listed spawn chances of 0.225%, 0.225% and 2.38%. The Ice Serpent, Dog and Hedgehog also defend, but the wiki marks them as not obtainable.
Pets that steal
- Raccoon (Super): checks every 5 to 10 seconds with an 85% chance to sneak out at night and steal from an empty garden. A steal takes 3 seconds, then a 10-second cooldown follows. It raises the steal limit by +25 (+50 Big, +100 Mega). It can be chased off with the Shovel.
- Kitsune (Secret): steals fruit and gives 20% of it the Chakra mutation (60x).
- Red Panda (Super): steals a seed from other players far more often than a Fox.
- Vampire Fox (Mythic): steals seeds and may snatch Candy Corn.
- Centipede (Secret): steals fruit, bites thieves and adds +5 walk speed.
A practical night routine
- 1Finish buying and selling during the day, because errands are the main reason gardens get raided.
- 2Stand inside the garden when night starts. A locked garden cannot be touched.
- 3If a Gold or Rainbow Moon appears, decide whether the seed is worth an unlocked garden before leaving.
- 4If leaving is unavoidable, place a Gnome and keep a Strawberry Sniper or a defensive pet equipped.
- 5When stealing, prefer high-value fruit that does not need the three-second delay, and keep moving.
Common mistakes
- Leaving the garden AFK at night. Most of the raid methods the wiki documents start with an owner who is away or idle.
- Standing next to strangers with a Wheelbarrow equipped. The carried owner loses the garden lock.
- Buying the Crowbar or Rake. Neither is currently obtainable.
- Counting on the Shovel alone. It only works while the owner is nearby and the thief has not left the garden.
- Stealing without a route home. Teleports are disabled until the fruit is delivered.

Stay inside your garden so it locks. If you must leave, use a Gnome, a Strawberry Sniper or a defensive pet such as the Bear or Bald Eagle.
How do you get stolen fruit back?
