The Phantom Mutation arrived in Update 53 (Summer Update Pt 1, released June 13, 2026) as the single strongest mutation in Steal a Brainrot, overtaking Cyber to claim the top spot on the multiplier table. If you want to maximize your income, understanding how Phantom works — and how to actually get it — is essential right now.
What the Phantom Mutation Does
Phantom gives its brainrot a 12x income multiplier, making it the highest mutation multiplier in the game as of this writing. For context, the previous leader was Cyber at 11x (added in the April 2026 Cyber Update), followed by Divine and Rainbow at 10x, Cursed at 9x, and Radioactive at 8.5x. The full tier breakdown from lowest to highest looks roughly like this:
- Default 1x → Gold 1.25x → Diamond 1.5x → Bloodrot 2x → Candy / Celestial 4x → Lava 6x → Galaxy 6–7x → Yin Yang 7.5x → Radioactive 8.5x → Cursed 9x → Divine / Rainbow 10x → Cyber 11x → Phantom 12x
That single step from Cyber to Phantom represents a meaningful income jump, especially on a high-base brainrot. Beyond the multiplier, Phantom visually transforms the brainrot's appearance in line with the Phantom Event aesthetic — phantasmal, ghostly, and noticeably distinct from other mutations.
How to Get the Phantom Mutation
Phantom is a limited-time mutation tied exclusively to the Phantom Event, which launched alongside Update 53 on June 13, 2026. The event visually reworks the map into phantasmal ruins: upside-down buildings on floating islands, phantom pillars, and a giant floating pillar behind the Cave entrance and exit.
There are two ways to obtain it during the event:
- Passive spawning on the conveyor. Brainrots that appear on the Red Carpet conveyor during the Phantom Event have a set chance to spawn already carrying the Phantom Mutation. No specific spawn-rate percentage has been confirmed by community sources yet, so treat it as a low-probability roll — pay attention to each brainrot that drops and act quickly when one shows up with the ghostly visual.
- Phantom Wheel. A dedicated limited-time wheel was introduced on June 13 that gives a chance to earn Phantom-related rewards, including the mutation itself. The exact drop rates and full reward list have not been detailed in community resources at time of writing, so check in-game or watch community channels for updated odds.
The Phantom Mutation was leaked by content creator Sammy on his Discord two days early (June 11, 2026), so the community had some advance notice — but availability is still gated to the active event period, and it is not yet confirmed whether Phantom will remain obtainable after the event ends.
Does Phantom Stack With Traits?
Yes — and understanding the stacking formula is key to getting the most out of a 12x mutation.
A brainrot can hold only one mutation at a time, but it can carry multiple traits simultaneously. The two systems combine additively: your brainrot's final income equals its base income multiplied by the sum of the mutation multiplier plus each trait's bonus above 1.
Using the formula reported by the community: Final income = Base income × (mutation multiplier + (Trait 1 − 1) + (Trait 2 − 1) + ...)
So a brainrot with Phantom (12x) and a trait that adds 2x contributes (12 + (2−1)) = 13x effective multiplier on that brainrot's base. The higher the mutation multiplier, the more absolute income each trait point adds, which is why stacking strong traits onto a Phantom brainrot with a high base income is the current meta goal.
Mutations only affect income and appearance — they do not grant special abilities or alter other stats. If you already have a Cyber brainrot with good traits, swapping to Phantom during the event is worth pursuing given the 1x multiplier advantage.
Tips for Making the Most of Phantom
Getting Phantom is only half the equation. To maximize its impact, pair it with a brainrot that has a naturally high base income, then layer in the strongest traits you have available. Check the brainrot values on the site to identify which base brainrots will benefit most from a 12x multiplier. Since the event is limited-time and the end date has not been officially announced, staying active during the event window is your best strategy. Watch the conveyor consistently and consider spending on the Phantom Wheel if the drop rate feels favorable for your playstyle.
