Sword Dealer of the West

Description

Picked up early in the First Sea, the Dual Katana is a common sword sold by the Sword Dealer of the West in Pirate Village for 12,000 Beli. Wielding two blades at once gives it a flashier feel than single-handed swords at the same tier, making it a popular first purchase for players investing in the Sword stat. Its two moves, Whirlwind and Tornado, follow a spinning theme that keeps enemies off-balance when chained together. Both are unlocked through normal mastery progression — the more hits you land, the faster you reach each move. Like all swords in Blox Fruits, damage scales with your Sword stat allocation, so putting points there will squeeze more out of these attacks. As a common weapon, the Dual Katana will eventually be outpaced by rarer swords, but it serves as a reliable stepping stone while you grind early levels and save for an upgrade.

Pros

9
  • Good option for beginners.
  • Low cooldowns, price, and mastery requirements.
  • Good for training Aura because of the low damage.
  • Both moves have AoE.
  • Has a decent hitbox, which makes it a good move.
  • Decent stun.
  • Low knockback, making it a reliable source of damage whilst grinding.
  • Decent AoE.
  • Good combo potential.

Cons

9
  • Cannot hit Blade users.
  • Does not break Instinct.
  • Low damage.
  • The cooldowns are very long for such a weak weapon, making it very ineffective, especially at such a low point in the game.
  • For its stage in the game, the Dual Katana's upgrade cost is exorbitant due to the requirement of Angel Wings, a material that can only be dropped by enemies in Upper Skylands, which are level 450+.
  • Bad range.
  • Hard to hit if PvP in air or far-range PvP.
  • Limited range, making it less effective for engaging distant enemies.
  • Holds the player in place, making it not very effective during PvP.

Trivia

4
  • 1The Dual Katana is often preferred over the Iron Mace because of its wider area of effect and having no insane knockback on the third click, making it more effective for grinding against multiple enemies.
  • 2The Dual Katana has a higher price than two separate Katanas, despite the fact that it is comprised of only two of them.
  • 3Dual Katana's moves were reworked.
  • 4Dual Katana was released.

Dual Katana — In-Depth Analysis

Identity and Rarity

Dual Katana is a Common-rarity sword available from the very beginning of Blox Fruits, purchased from the Sword Dealer of the West at Pirate Village in the First Sea for 12,000 Beli. As a common weapon it sits firmly in starter-tier territory, but that framing undersells one of its genuine niche uses: because it deals low damage, it is one of the best weapons for training Aura (Buso Haki) without accidentally over-killing NPCs.

How to Obtain

Speak to the Sword Dealer of the West at Pirate Village in the First Sea. At 12,000 Beli it is among the cheapest weapons available, accessible very early in the progression curve. No materials, drops, or quests are required.

Role: Beginner Tool and Aura Trainer

Dual Katana offers AoE on both of its moves, low cooldowns relative to its power tier, and a decent hitbox that makes moves reasonably easy to land. Its low knockback is a genuine strength for grinding — enemies stay in range to absorb follow-up hits rather than being launched away. The weapon has combo potential and a decent stun, making it functional for early-game PvP encounters.

Its most notorious weakness is its upgrade path: progressing the Dual Katana requires Angel Wings, a material dropped only by enemies in Upper Skylands (level 450+). This means upgrading it costs far more in effort than the weapon's combat value justifies — players are better served replacing it with a higher-tier sword before investing in upgrades.

Tip: Use Dual Katana specifically for Aura grinding in the early game — its low damage lets you train Buso Haki on NPC waves without burning through them too quickly.
