Fisch Beginner Guide: How to Start, What to Buy First and Where to Go

Guide

Quick Summary

How casting, shaking and reeling work, the five stats that matter, which rods to buy first, which tools are worth it and a first route to the mid-game.

The Fisch beginner guide in one paragraph

You spawn in Moosewood with a free Flimsy Rod, catch fish, sell them to the Merchant for C$, and spend that money on a better rod before you spend it on anything else. Rods are the progression. Boats, tools and levels unlock the places where better fish live. This Fisch beginner guide follows that order: how a catch works, what the stats mean, which rods to buy in which order, the cheap tools worth having, how levels open boats and shops, and the first mid-game route. Facts come from the Fisch Fandom wiki's Walkthrough, Levels, rod and item pages (read in October 2026). The Walkthrough page says its content is for version 1.74.0, so a few details may have moved, and the wiki sometimes disagrees with itself; where it does, we say so. We haven't played through this route ourselves.

## Your first ten minutes

1. You spawn at Moosewood. The Merchant there gives you the Flimsy Rod, the starter rod.
2. Talk to Pierre, the tutorial NPC. He sends you to catch 3 fish, then suggests you make some C$ and buy a new rod.
3. Cast, wait for the bite, then reel. The wiki's short version: keep the white bar on the fish until the progress bar fills.
4. Sell what you catch to the Merchant. Repeat.

How a catch works, according to the wiki's Fishing and Mechanics pages:

- Cast. A bar fills and you stop it. The ratings run from "Meh.." to "PERFECT!", and a perfect cast needs the white bar inside a tiny green zone. Better casts only make your line longer.
- Shake. After you cast, a Shake button appears at random spots on the screen. Pressing it shortens the wait for a bite. If your Lure Speed reaches 100% or higher through enchants or baits, a fish bites the instant the bobber lands and you don't need to shake at all.
- Reel. When a fish bites, an exclamation mark appears over your head, and the colour tells you how rare it is. Hold the input to move the big bar right and let go to move it left. Fill the progress bar and the fish is yours.
- Perfect catches. The wiki says a perfect catch (the control bar never leaves the fish) gives +50% XP and 10 C$.

Pierre also says that if you are still struggling to catch fish, you could consider buying the Training Rod. It's a 300 C$ practice rod from Marc in Moosewood with 0.2 Control and 20% Resilience but -70% luck and a 9 kg limit, so it's for learning, not for earning.

## The five stats that matter

The Walkthrough explains four of them like this. The fifth, Max kg, comes from the rod pages (see the last row):

| Stat | What it does |
|---|---|
| Lure Speed | How fast a fish bites after the hook hits the water |
| Luck | The rod's chance for rarer fish. Baits add "preferred luck" for fish that like them |
| Control | The size of your bar. 0 control means a bar 30% of the whole track, and each 0.01 up or down changes it by 1% |
| Resilience | How calm the fish is. Higher means slower and fewer movements; above 25% the wiki calls low-rarity fish easy |
| Max kg | The rod's weight limit. On the Training Rod page, fish above the limit are cut from the loot table |

## The early rod ladder

Most Moosewood rods are sold by Marc. Costs and stats are from each rod's wiki page.

| Rod | Cost | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Flimsy Rod | Free | Starter. Lure Speed 100%, Control -0.72 |
| Training Rod | 300 C$ | Practice only |
| Plastic Rod | 750 C$ | Lure Speed 20%, Luck 15%, Resilience 10%. The wiki says not to bother |
| Carbon Rod | 2,000 C$ | The wiki calls it the best rod for early-game progression. -10% Lure Speed, 25% luck, 600 kg limit |
| Steady Rod | 7,000 C$ (Roslit Bay) | -60% Lure Speed but 35% luck, 30% Resilience and a 100,000 kg limit, plus a bigger Shake button. The wiki calls it a common mid-game rod |
| Magma Rod | Free (Orc's quest) | Lets you fish inside the Roslit Volcano |
| Kings Rod | 100,000 C$ | At the Keeper's Altar. Infinite max weight and +30% fish size |

Two details that save money. The Walkthrough names the Plastic Rod (750 C$) or the Carbon Rod (2,000 C$) as the first rod to save for, but the Plastic Rod page itself recommends the Carbon Rod instead. And Orc, the NPC outside Roslit Volcano, will give you the Magma Rod and the title "Orcs Best Friend" for catching one Pufferfish, which you can catch near the lighthouse. The Walkthrough calls the Magma Rod a lot better than the other rods you can get at that stage.

## Baits: skip them at first

The wiki is blunt: bait with good lure speed and resilience helps, but saving for rods matters more. When you do want bait, the wiki says the Magnet Rod (15,000 C$, from Terrapin Island) lets you fish quality bait crates at Sunstone Island, and recommends better baits for the mid game.

## Cheap tools worth buying

- GPS (100 C$). You can buy it in Moosewood or the Mushgrove Swamp guard tower. It shows your coordinates, which treasure maps need.
- Fish Radar (8,000 C$). Sold in Moosewood, Roslit Bay and Terrapin Island. It makes fish abundances and fish hunts in specific areas visible, and it can be toggled on and off.

## Levels and boats

Levels unlock things on their own, and the wiki's level table is worth knowing:

| Level | What you get |
|---|---|
| 5 | Rowboat and the Shipwright. The Boats page lists the Rowboat at 700 C$, but the Walkthrough says 400 C$ |
| 7 | Surfboard |
| 10 | Bass Boat |
| 15 | Hover Boat and the ability to send and receive item offers with other players |
| 20 | Speed Boat |
| 25 | Fishing Boat |
| 30 | Pirate Ship, Pontoon Boat and Merlin's shop (Enchant Relics at 11,000 C$) |
| 70 | Submarine |
| 500 | No-Life Rod |
| 1000 | Seraphic Rod |

The level cap is 2,000. The wiki's changelog says you receive the Companion Satchel at level 30, see our Fisch companions guide.

## Free money: Sunken Chests

Sunken Chests are a server event: 3 to 5 chests spawn near an island such as Moosewood, Roslit Bay or Forsaken Shores, stay for 10 minutes and come back an hour later. Rewards include totems, baits and C$, and the Walkthrough says you might even find the Auric Rod. For normal chests, the wiki lists a 6% chance (1 in 17) for a Sundial Totem and 0.25% for the Auric Rod.

## Your first route

The Walkthrough's order, trimmed down:

1. Fish at Moosewood, sell, and buy a rod. The Walkthrough lists the Plastic Rod or the Carbon Rod, and the rod pages point to the Carbon Rod.
2. At level 5, buy your first boat (the wiki gives both 400 C$ and 700 C$ for the Rowboat). Buy the GPS and the Fish Radar.
3. Go to Roslit Bay. Either save 7,000 C$ for the Steady Rod or do Orc's Pufferfish quest for the Magma Rod.
4. Save 100,000 C$ for the Kings Rod at the Keeper's Altar (400 C$ for the elevator). That's where the wiki says mid-game starts.
5. From there, the wiki's suggested money spots and rods begin. Our Fisch rod progression guide lays out which rod comes next, and our money making guide covers where to grind.

## Mistakes new players make

- Buying the Plastic Rod. The wiki says the Carbon Rod is the better value.
- Spending on bait before the first good rod.
- Ignoring the Shake button when your Lure Speed is below 100%.
- Ignoring the Bestiary. The Walkthrough says the Destiny Rod needs 70% of the whole Bestiary, while the Destiny Rod page lists 350 fish and 190,000 C$, see our Bestiary guide.

## Frequently asked questions

### What is the first rod to buy in Fisch?
The wiki calls the Carbon Rod (2,000 C$ in Moosewood) the best early-game rod. The Training Rod at 300 C$ is only for practice.

### How do you get the Magma Rod?
Catch a Pufferfish near the Roslit Bay lighthouse and give it to Orc, who camps outside Roslit Volcano.

### When do you get a boat?
The wiki's level table says the Rowboat unlocks at level 5. The Boats page lists it at 700 C$, but the Walkthrough says 400 C$.

### What does Lure Speed do?
It controls how fast a fish bites. The Mechanics page says that at 100% or more through enchantments or baits, a fish is caught as soon as the bobber touches the water and you no longer need to shake.

### What level is the level cap?
2,000, according to the Levels page.
