A mutation in Steal a Brainrot changes how a brainrot looks and multiplies how much it earns. Each brainrot can have only one mutation, and the multiplier ranges from 1.25x for Gold to 14x for Eclipse. This guide lists every mutation on the Steal a Brainrot Fandom wiki (stealabr.fandom.com), explains how the multiplier is added to trait multipliers, shows which mutations can still be obtained and ranks them with a stated criterion.
The multipliers and availability notes come from the wiki and from our own copy of its data. We have not tested them in-game.
How mutations work
- One mutation per brainrot. Traits are different: a brainrot can carry several traits at once.
- Multipliers add. The wiki's worked example uses Ventoliero Pavonero. A default one is 1x. With an 11x mutation it is 11x. With that mutation and one 5x trait it is 16x. With two 5x traits it is 21x. The mutation and traits are summed, then applied to the base income.
- Base skins. Owning at least 75% (three quarters) of the obtainable brainrots with a single mutation unlocks a base skin for that mutation. You select it from the settings icon in the base skin menu, and your progress is tracked in the Index.
- Seasonal textures. From Radioactive onward, brainrots affected by the newer seasonal mutations get a special texture, according to the wiki.
Every mutation and its multiplier

|---|---|---|---|---|
| Default | 1x | Permanent | Start of the game | Every brainrot without a mutation |
| Gold | 1.25x | Permanent | May 31, 2025 | 10% chance on the Red Carpet |
| Diamond | 1.5x | Permanent | May 31, 2025 | 5% chance on the Red Carpet |
| Bloodrot | 2x | Limited | Update 2 | Admin Abuse, Bloodmoon event |
| Candy | 4x | Limited | July 5, 2025 | Admin Abuse, Candy Aurora event |
| Lava | 6x | Limited | July 25, 2025 | Admin Abuse, Molten event |
| Galaxy | 7x | Limited | August 23, 2025 | Admin Abuse, Galactic event |
| Yin Yang | 7.5x | Limited | September 27, 2025 | Admin Abuse, Yin Yang event |
| Radioactive | 8.5x | Limited | November 15, 2025 | Admin Abuse, Radioactive event |
| Cursed | 9x | Limited | January 3, 2026 | Admin Abuse, Cursed event |
| Rainbow | 10x | Permanent | June 21, 2025 | 1% chance on the Red Carpet |
| Divine | 10x | Limited | February 21, 2026 | Admin Abuse, Divine event |
| Cyber | 11x | Limited | April 18, 2026 | Admin Abuse, Cyber event |
| Phantom | 12x | Limited | June 13, 2026 | Phantom event, mild chance |
| Crystal | 13x | Limited | July 25, 2026 | Crystal event, mild chance |
| Eclipse | 14x | Limited | October 2, 2026 | Eclipse event, mild chance |
Gold and Diamond came with Update 1, and the wiki says they are the most common mutations, Gold first. The wiki describes Bloodrot as the first mutation with its own limited event, although it notes Divine can be considered better because Divine brainrots can get an exclusive trait, Halo. Rainbow and Divine share the same 10x multiplier. A Rainbow Machine event once raised the Rainbow chance, but the wiki describes it as a past, limited-time event.
Two mutations in some data sources have no confirmed release: Disco was scrapped and replaced by Cyber, and Neon is listed as upcoming. A third, Prismatic, does not appear in the wiki's mutation list, so this guide leaves it out.
Our tier ranking of mutations
This is our own classification, built on a single criterion: the multiplier. Availability is noted but does not change the tier.
| Tier | Multiplier | Mutations |
|---|---|---|
| S | 12x and up | Eclipse, Crystal, Phantom |
| A | 10x to 11x | Cyber, Divine, Rainbow |
| B | 6x to 9x | Cursed, Radioactive, Yin Yang, Galaxy, Lava |
| C | 1.25x to 4x | Candy, Bloodrot, Diamond, Gold |
| Baseline | 1x | Default |
The gap between the bottom and the top is large. Default to Gold adds only a quarter point, and Diamond adds half a point, which is why Gold and Diamond are a starting point and not a goal. The first big step is Lava at 6x, and the top three are each at least 12x.
What a mutation does to income
Using La Food Combinasion, listed on the wiki at $90M/s:
| Mutation | Multiplier | Income |
|---|---|---|
| Default | 1x | $90M/s |
| Gold | 1.25x | $112.5M/s |
| Diamond | 1.5x | $135M/s |
| Lava | 6x | $540M/s |
| Rainbow | 10x | $900M/s |
| Cyber | 11x | $990M/s |
| Eclipse | 14x | $1.26B/s |
Because the base is multiplied, the same mutation gives more on a richer brainrot. An Eclipse Pizza and Ranch ($130M/s base) earns $1.82B/s, while Eclipse on a $65M/s Ventoliero Pavonero earns $910M/s.
Adding a trait changes the picture in a measurable way. A 5x trait on top of Gold (1.25x) gives 6.25x, which adds five points where Gold alone adds a quarter of a point. The wiki lists several 5x traits, such as Fireworks, Rose and Nyan, and the highest trait values are in the 6x to 8x range (Strawberry is 8x, Meowl 7x).
Which mutations can you still get
Based on the wiki's availability notes:
- Permanent, Red Carpet: Gold (10%), Diamond (5%) and Rainbow (1%). These are the only ones with a stated spawn chance, so they are the only ones you can plan around. The Red Carpet is where brainrots walk past your base. Other players can buy a brainrot that is walking to your base at 150% of its base cost.
- Event mutations still marked as active: Phantom, Crystal and Eclipse each list a mild chance during their event, activated every 30 minutes. The wiki does not give a percentage.
- Admin Abuse only: every limited mutation from Bloodrot to Cyber. Admin Abuse events are special sessions run by the developers, typically after the Saturday update at around 3 PM EST and on Taco Tuesday at 6 PM EST.
The wiki also documents a command called Mutation Rain, added in Update 51 for the game's anniversary. It makes a set number of brainrots spawn with a random mutation. The wiki does not state the odds.
How to choose where to spend a mutation
- 1Mutate brainrots you plan to keep. The multiplier belongs to that brainrot, so its value only pays off while you hold it.
- 2Put high multipliers on high bases. The same mutation adds more income to a $175M/s Cerberus than to a $65M/s brainrot.
- 3Count traits. Because values are added, a brainrot with an 11x mutation and two 5x traits is 21x.
- 4Compare with simply buying a better brainrot. A 14x Eclipse on a $60M/s Secret earns $840M/s, more than a default $750M/s Strawberry Elephant.
Common mistakes
- Multiplying mutation and traits. The wiki adds them. Multiplying overstates income.
- Using made-up spawn odds. Only Gold, Diamond and Rainbow have wiki-stated Red Carpet chances: 10%, 5% and 1%. Figures like 20% for Diamond do not appear in the wiki.
- Waiting for scrapped mutations. Disco was replaced by Cyber, and Frost was scrapped in favor of Crystal, according to the wiki's trivia.
- Assuming limited means obtainable. Many limited mutations are listed as unobtainable without Admin Abuse.
