The Halloween event in 99 Nights in the Forest is a limited-time set of updates built around trick-or-treating, a candy currency and a Halloween shop. It has run in two rounds. The 2025 round ran as four weekly updates from October 18 to November 8, 2025, and its content was removed on November 8. The 2026 round started with the Helping Happy update on October 3 and added a returning Trick or Treat update on October 17, according to the 99 Nights in the Forest Fandom wiki's Update Log (99-nights-in-the-forest.fandom.com). This guide is the reference for both rounds: what each update added, how candy is earned and spent, and which rewards belonged to which year.
Everything here comes from the wiki. We have not played the event ourselves. Where the wiki's pages disagree, we say so.
Timeline of both rounds
| Date | Update | What it added (wiki) |
|---|---|---|
| October 18, 2025 | Trick or Treat | Halloween lobby and map, Trick or Treating, Candies, Halloween Candle, Trick or Treater class, Happy the Halloween Guy |
| October 25, 2025 | Potion Making | Cauldron, potions, Witch class |
| November 1, 2025 | The Hedge Maze | Carnival, Hedge Maze, Vampire class, Vampire Cloak and Scythe |
| November 8, 2025 | Daily Quests | Most Halloween content deleted, Daily Quests added |
| October 3, 2026 | Helping Happy | Webs across the map, Happy's Scythe, three temporary badges |
| October 17, 2026 | Trick or Treat | Trick or Treating returns, new Halloween lobby with Happy's shop, costume collecting |
The wiki's note on November 8, 2025 lists what was deleted: Candy currency, Halloween Candles, the Cemetery, the Spider Infested Tree, Trick-or-Treating, Potion Making and Happy the Halloween Guy. As of this guide, the wiki does not give an end date for the 2026 round. Several wiki pages for the mechanics still carry a temporarily gone banner and the 2025 dates, so check in-game before planning around a feature.
How trick-or-treating works
- 1Get a Halloween Candle. Candles come from opening chests, killing Cultists, finishing a Cultist Raid and finishing the Cultist Stronghold. The wiki says the Stronghold gives the most, around 3 to 10 or more, and a Cultist Raid around 1 to 5 or more depending on the number of days.
- 2Light a house. Drop the candle at the door. You can light a house at any time of day.
- 3Knock at night. After a few seconds, the occupant gives a treat or a trick.
The wiki lists 10 houses on the map, each linked to a character: three developer houses, a Crossbow Cultist, a Melee Cultist, the Pelt Trader, the Furniture Trader, the Bird Watcher, an Alien and the Fairy. A separate Vampire house sits inside the Hedge Maze.
| Result | Examples (wiki) |
|---|---|
| Treat | Laser Cannon, Raygun, Frozen Shurikens, Frog Boots, Carrot Cake, Pumpkin, Candy Corn, Candy Apple, Pumpkin Pie, Fuel Canister, Bandage, 5 Mossy Coins, no hunger for 3 minutes, faster healing |
| Trick | Drops everything in your sack, pumpkin over your screen, ball and chain, turned into a frog, flung away, inverted controls |
Even a trick pays 3 Candies. Candies dropped by a house are collected automatically if left alone for 40 seconds.
Costume collecting (2026)
The Update Log for October 17, 2026 adds a costume system on top of trick-or-treating:
- Collect costume pieces: hat, torso, pants and shoes.
- With all four pieces you have a better chance of candy instead of a trick. If the pieces match, you get more candy.
- Arriving at a house with no costume always gives a trick and no candy.
- Outfits listed: dinosaur, pirate, astronaut, werewolf, lobster and mummy.
- Pieces come from costume boxes, chests and random drops from wolves, cultists and other enemies.
- A costume closet can be built at the crafting table for 3 wood.
Candy: where it comes from and what it buys
| Source (wiki) | Candy |
|---|---|
| Each house visited | 3 (4 with the Trick or Treater class) |
| Asking Happy a specific sequence of questions | 3, once |
| Scavenger hunt in the lobby | up to 3 |
| Carnival game win | 5 per win, once per run |
| Brewing a correct potion | 5 for everyone on the server |
| Each Halloween chest in the Hedge Maze | 4 |
| Codes | varies |
The wiki's farming tip is to focus on potion brewing in a party, since every correct potion gives everyone 5 Candies. Candies are spent at Happy's shop in the lobby on Halloween-exclusive items. Items with a clock symbol disappear when the event ends. The 2026 update lists furniture bought with candy: Halloween decor, a spooky crock pot, fancy dressed clothes, a coffin chair, a pile of skulls, spooky braziers, standing coffins and a shrapnel grenade.
Potion Making (2025)
A cauldron next to the crafting bench asks for ingredients. Common ones are Morsel, Bunny Foot, Coal, Mackerel, Steak and Berry. Fairy-required ones are Dripleaf, Moonflower, Stareweed, Cavevine and Mandrake Plant. A wrong ingredient makes the cauldron explode, knocking you back, and the liquid poisons anyone who steps in. Green potions give a treat effect (no hunger loss, health regeneration, speed boost, 5 Mossy Coins) and purple potions give a trick effect, which includes slowness and the same list as the houses.
Carnival and Hedge Maze (2025)
The Carnival has three booths: Ring Toss, Hoop Shot and a Shooting Gallery. Each gives a Carnival Ticket after you score 3 points, make 3 baskets or hit all five targets (Bear, Cultist, Ram, Owl and Deer). Three tickets open the Hedge Maze, which holds 4 Spooky Chests, a Vampire Chest at the end, a Vampire House, farm plots with glowing pumpkins and a costume closet. The wiki says the maze gives at least 19 Candies from its four Spooky Chests and the Vampire House. It advises visiting during the day, since the Deer can spawn inside at night.
Classes and rewards
| Reward | Cost | What it does (wiki) |
|---|---|---|
| Trick or Treater class | 30 Candies | 4 candies per house, higher treat chance at level 2, more candle drops at level 3 |
| Witch class | 900 Candies | Starts with a Witches Potion; throws potions that damage enemies or apply random effects, heals allies at level 2, adds poison at level 3 |
| Vampire class | 600 diamonds | Vampire Cloak and Scythe, lifesteal, faster at night, better night vision |
| Happy's Cart furniture | Earn the three Helping Happy badges | Reaping, Strawcraft and Sweeping |
The wiki calls the Witch one of the strongest and most versatile classes in the game. Treat that as the wiki's opinion.
Helping Happy, in short
The October 3, 2026 update has webs spawning around the map that need Happy's Scythe. The scythe has three levels: level 1 does 15 damage and needs 10 hits per web, level 2 does 40 damage and needs 4 hits, and level 3 does 55 damage and needs 1. The badges are Reaping (scythe to level 3), Strawcraft (rebuild Happy) and Sweeping (destroy 200 webs). A separate guide on this site covers that update in full.
Common mistakes
- Skipping the candle step. Houses must be lit with a candle first.
- Knocking during the day. The wiki says to knock when night falls.
- Showing up with no costume in 2026. You get a trick and no candy.
- Spending on items that expire. Items with a clock symbol are removed when the event ends.
- Entering the maze at night. The Deer can appear.
