Quick Summary

Best class combinations and multiplayer strategies for 99 Nights in the Forest โ€” team roles, badge synergies, and how to reach Day 99 together.

Multiplayer Strategy and Best Class Combos โ€“ 99 Nights in the Forest

99 Nights in the Forest is significantly easier with a coordinated team. Having one player die repeatedly wastes everyone's resources, and running the wrong class mix means you end up with five combatants and no one managing the campfire. This guide covers team composition, role assignments, and the best class synergies for 2โ€“5 player groups.

Core Team Roles

Every successful team needs someone covering these four roles. In a 2-player run you double up. In a 5-player run you can specialize:

RolePurposeBest Classes
MedicKeep teammates alive through revivesMedic (40D), Berserker (100D)
Scout / LooterExplore, open chests, find resourcesExplorer (80D), Scavenger (25D)
FighterCombat โ€” Cultist raids, bosses, animalsAssassin (500D), Brawler (100D), Ranger (70D)
Support / BaseCampfire fuel, farm plots, craftingLumberjack (70D), Farmer (80D), Chef (150D)

2-Player Combos

Combo A: Medic + Berserker

The safest 2-player pairing. The Medic (40D) revives 5ร— faster so downtime from deaths is nearly zero. The Berserker (100D) auto-revives on first death and deals increased damage at low HP. Together you cover every emergency scenario without needing expensive classes.

Badge synergy: First Aid (revive a dead teammate, 1โ˜…, 2D) is trivially earned this way.

Combo B: Assassin + Medic

A damage-forward pairing. The Assassin (500D) starts with a Katana (25โ€“32.54 damage), 120 Throwing Knives, and a 10% sprint speed bonus. The Medic keeps the Assassin alive so they can keep attacking. This combo clears the Cultist Stronghold and Cultist King very efficiently.

Combo C: Beastmaster + Zookeeper

A taming-focused run. Beastmaster (400D) can keep 5 pets and summon Wolves with 3 Steak. Zookeeper (70D) always has 3 animals and makes feed more effective. Between the two players you can field 8 trained animals โ€” effectively a small army. The Beastmaster's Level 3 makes the first Wolf an Alpha Wolf (125 HP, 25 damage).

Badge synergy: Taming (1โ˜…, 2D), Husbandry (1.5โ˜…, 4D), and with enough Mammoths, Wilderness Hunting (3โ˜…, 10D).

3-Player Combos

The Standard: Medic + Fighter + Explorer

  • Medic (40D): Stays at camp or follows the group; revives instantly.
  • Fighter: Assassin (500D) or Brawler (100D) for combat power.
  • Explorer (80D): +2 sack space, sees chests through walls at Level 3, covers the most ground.

The Explorer is the ideal third player because they can find supplies faster than anyone else and their chest-vision at Level 3 makes every loot run dramatically more efficient.

Stronghold Specialists: Ranger + Berserker + Grenadier

  • Ranger (70D): Rifle from Day 1, ammo refund on shots.
  • Berserker (100D): Auto-revive ensures no one permanently dies.
  • Grenadier (100D): 10 Impact Grenades + 1 Dynamite starter; grenades stack from chest drops.

This team has ranged coverage (Ranger), melee tank (Berserker), and AoE burst (Grenadier). Ideal for the Cultist Stronghold's three-floor gauntlet and Cultist raids.

5-Player Combo: Full Specialization

The Teamwork badge (4.5โ˜…, 8 Diamonds) requires reaching Day 99 with 5 people in the server โ€” the highest Diamond value of the social badges and one of the hardest to coordinate.

PlayerClassRole
1Medic (40D)Revive support
2Assassin (500D)Primary combat DPS
3Explorer (80D)Scouting + looting
4Lumberjack (70D)Log farming for campfire
5Chef (150D)Food + Night Vision support

The Chef at Level 1 makes unique recipes. Carrot Cake gives Night Vision for 9 minutes + 10 HP heal. BBQ Ribs give 4 forks hunger AND heals health. The whole team benefits from Chef's food buffs, especially for nighttime operations.

The Lumberjack's 20% bonus logs at Level 1 becomes critical for Level 5 and 6 campfire upgrades (275โ€“350+ Logs needed). With a dedicated Lumberjack, the team reaches Firemaking IV badge (2โ˜…, 4D) much faster.

Shared Campfire Strategy

In multiplayer, the campfire fuel is shared โ€” if nobody is stocking it, it goes out and everyone is exposed to The Deer. Assign one player the campfire job each day:

  1. 1Before heading out, check the campfire fuel level.
  2. 2Add enough logs to last the full night.
  3. 3If available, add Fuel Canisters and Coal to boost burn time.
  4. 4The designated player should always return to camp before dark.

Campfire Flame tip: With 5 players generating Daily Quest completions for Supply Crates, you can accumulate multiple Campfire Flames quickly. Prioritize the Blue Hot Flame (weather reduction) for standard nights.

Handling Cultist Raids

Cultist raids are when groups of Cultists attack your camp. In multiplayer:

  1. 1One player stays near the campfire โ€” never let it get destroyed.
  2. 2Fighters engage from a distance โ€” Rifle (60โ€“90 damage) and Revolver (25โ€“37.5 damage) let you kill Cultists before they reach camp.
  3. 3Grenadier uses Impact Grenades to cluster-kill groups.
  4. 4Bear Traps placed around camp perimeter slow Cultists and let you focus fire.

The Combat badge (1โ˜…, 2D) is earned by your first successful Cultist raid defense. The Volcanology badge (2โ˜…, 5D) requires depositing 150 Cultists in the Volcano lava โ€” a fun team goal for Volcanic Biome runs.

Missing Children: Team Coordination

The 4 Missing Children (Dino Kid, Kraken Kid, Squid Kid, Koala Kid) are scattered across the map. Each one adds +1 to the day counter when rescued. In multiplayer, split up to find all four quickly:

  • Each rescued child gets a tent at camp
  • Rescuing all 4 earns the Orienteering badge (2.5โ˜…, 4D)
  • Leaving them unrescued earns Self Preservation (3โ˜…, 4D) โ€” but only if one specific player never rescues any

In a 5-player team, have 4 players split to find one child each while the 5th holds camp.

Badge Farming as a Team

Some badges are significantly easier to grind with teammates:

BadgeWhy Easier with TeamDiamond Reward
First AidRevive teammate; Medic makes this trivial2D
InfiltrationClear Stronghold faster4D
TeamworkRequires 5 players reaching Day 998D
Blessings IICaverns harder alone4D
Dueling (Fight Pit)5-wave fight with backup4D
SupportingKill 50 enemies near a teammate5D

Supporting badge (1โ˜…, 5D): Just kill 50 enemies while a teammate is nearby. Trivial in any multiplayer session โ€” farm it during normal Cultist waves.
