Players join specially created party servers — either 5-player or 10-player lobbies — and participate in a live event managed by the development team using admin tools unavailable to regular players. The event is counted down in real time: a 30-minute timer appears before the party starts, and once it expires, the party itself runs for another 30 minutes, wrapping up just before the patch drops so players can jump straight into the new content.
