The Big Buttercup is the entry rung of the Buttercup Quest Event ladder, and it is a limited rare crop rather than a shop seed. That single fact reframes its economics entirely: you do not "buy" it with Sheckles and weigh seed cost against sell price, you earn it by completing event quest steps, so the real cost is your time during the event window.

Because it sits at the rare tier, the Big Buttercup is the most attainable Buttercup but also the least valuable per fruit of the line. Its job is to be the stepping stone you grow and harvest to progress the quest toward the rarer Bigger and Biggest variants, not your long-term money maker. Treat the early harvest as quest fuel.

Where it does shine is collectibility and mutation potential. Since it is limited and cannot be re-bought once the event ends, a clean mutated specimen, especially with a weather mutation like Wet or Chilled stacked on a Golden or Rainbow roll, holds display and trade value long after the quest closes. Grow it promptly while the event is live; hesitation means missing it for good.
