New Creature β Part 2 of the Snow Biome Event
The Snow Biome arrived in two waves. Part 1 introduced an entirely new frozen landscape packed with hostile wildlife, exclusive loot, and time-limited badges. Part 2 built on that foundation with something darker: strange feathers began appearing all across the Snow Biome β and even the Deer refused to go near whatever left them. That creature turned out to be The Owl, a terrifying unkillable threat that reshaped how teams approach Snow Biome runs, alongside a new NPC called the Bird Watcher and two classes designed for the chaos that follows.
What Changed in Part 2
Part 2 of the Snow Biome event layers new content on top of everything introduced in Part 1. The headline additions are two new entities and two new classes, each of which has meaningful implications for how survivors should play.
The Owl β An Unkillable Threat
The most significant new arrival is The Owl. Unlike every standard enemy in the game, The Owl cannot be killed β its HP is listed as N/A. It moves through both the Snow Biome and the broader Forest with a walk speed of 45, which makes it faster than most creatures players encounter, and each hit deals 25 damage, enough to punish unprepared teams quickly.
What makes The Owl especially important from a mechanical standpoint is its place in the secondary monster system. 99 Nights in the Forest has four secondary monsters β The Owl, The Cat, The Ram, and The Bat. Which one appears in a given run depends on which optional biome the server rolled:
| Biome present | Secondary monster |
|---|---|
| Snow Biome | The Owl |
| Jungle Biome | The Cat |
| Volcanic Biome | The Ram |
The Owl appears only when the Snow Biome is present. Because biome selection is random each run, players targeting Owl encounters must restart until Snow appears β and players who prefer to avoid it can treat a Snow roll as a signal to play more defensively.
The Bird Watcher β Stationary Trader and Lore Figure
The second new entity is the Bird Watcher. He is a passive NPC who arrives in the forest specifically to investigate The Owl. With a walk speed of 0 he never moves from his spawn position, so finding him once means he will always be at that spot.
His trade mechanic is straightforward but carries a real cost: he exchanges Fuel Canisters for Feathers. Fuel Canisters are a high-demand resource β they feed the Pyromaniac class, power campfire upgrades, and appear as guaranteed loot in both the Ice Chest and Cold Chest. Giving them to the Bird Watcher is a genuine decision teams need to make together, not an automatic trade.
Note: The Bird Watcher is currently tagged as Removed in the entity data, suggesting he was tied specifically to the Snow Biome event and may no longer spawn in standard runs.
Two New Classes
Part 2 introduced two classes that fit directly into the threats and opportunities the Snow Biome creates.
Base Defender (40 Diamonds)
The Base Defender is one of the cheapest effective classes available at just 40 Diamonds. It starts each run with 2 Defense Blueprints already in hand and scales through three upgrade tiers:
- Level 1: Begin the run with 2 Defense Blueprints.
- Level 2: Placed defenses can be upgraded and gain improved durability.
- Level 3: Defenses you place deal higher damage to enemies.
In the Snow Biome, where the Polar Bear hits for 50 damage at walk speed 28, and where The Owl may arrive at any moment and cannot be fought off, having solid fortifications up early is not optional β it is survival. The Level 3 perk that converts fortifications into damage sources gives the Base Defender genuine offensive contribution, making it a strong pick for teams who want to hold a position while others loot the Ice Temple or Polar Bear Cave.
Berserker (100 Diamonds)
The Berserker starts with a Medkit and builds a high-risk, high-reward loop around taking damage:
- Level 1: After your first death, automatically revive with low HP and hunger.
- Level 2: Upon auto-reviving, gain a temporary strength boost.
- Level 3: Deal higher damage the lower your HP is.
This kit is well-suited to Snow Biome aggression. The Owl deals 25 damage per hit and cannot be killed, so encounters with it are purely about surviving long enough to escape. A Berserker who absorbs Owl hits, drops to critical health, and triggers the Level 3 damage boost can burn through surrounding Arctic Foxes (HP 80, damage 12) or Polar Bears more efficiently while retreating. The auto-revive on first death is a crucial safety net when no teammates are nearby.
Snow Biome Content: Full Recap
Because Part 2 is built on Part 1 foundation, here is the complete content from both halves still active in the game.
Enemies and Key Drops
| Entity | HP | Damage | Speed | Behavior | Key Drops |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Mammoth | 800 | 30 | 20 | Neutral | Steak x8-9, Ribs x2, Mammoth Tusk (chance) |
| Polar Bear | 500 | 50 | 28 | Hostile | Morsel x7-8, Steak x3-4, Polar Bear Pelt (chance) |
| Arctic Fox | 80 | 12 | 27 | Hostile | Morsel x1-2, Arctic Fox Pelt (chance) |
| The Owl | N/A | 25 | 45 | Hostile | None |
The Mammoth will not attack unless provoked, making it a valuable food source. Ribs drop from Mammoths (and their volcanic variants, the Hellephant and Mossy Mammoth). Raw Ribs restore 2 hunger icons; cooked Ribs restore 4 β double the value if you have a campfire available.

Chest Loot Tables
| Chest | Contents |
|---|---|
| Ice Chest | Ice Axe, Ice Sword, Frozen Shuriken, Fuel Canister, 1 Diamond |
| Cold Chest | Ice Axe, Snowball, Fuel Canister, 1 Diamond, Leather Body |
Both chests guarantee a Fuel Canister and a Diamond, making them worth hitting on every run even for players who do not use the ice weapons.
Limited-Time Event Badges
Four badges were available exclusively during the Snow Biome event window:
- "Knitting" Badge
- "Ice Sculpting" Badge
- "Wilderness Hunting" Badge
- "Reconstruction" Badge
Completing these badge requirements unlocked exclusive items. If the event is no longer active, these badges cannot be earned in current runs.
Adapting Your Strategy
The Owl fundamentally changes how you must think about the Snow Biome. Here is a practical approach for different team compositions.
Solo or small team: Prioritize speed. Enter the Snow Biome, collect chest loot from the Cold Chests in the cabins first β they are the safest structures β then move to the Polar Bear Cave or Ice Temple for Ice Chests if the risk seems manageable. Avoid the areas where The Owl is patrolling.
Fortification team: Run a Base Defender. Place defenses early around your campfire or the Snow Biome entrance to create a buffer zone. The Owl patrol can be weathered behind fortifications without requiring direct combat.
Aggressive loot team: A Berserker frontliner who absorbs damage and auto-revives is valuable here. Combine with a support player and coordinate retreats before The Owl catches the team fully in the open.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can The Owl be killed?
No. The Owl is explicitly unkillable β its HP value is listed as N/A. There is no weapon or strategy that can remove it from the run.
Where does The Owl spawn?
It spawns in the Snow Biome and the broader Forest area. It only appears in runs where the Snow Biome is present on that server.
Is the Bird Watcher still in the game?
Currently the Bird Watcher is tagged as Removed, suggesting he no longer spawns in standard runs. He was an event-specific NPC tied to the Snow Biome Part 2 narrative who investigated The Owl.
Are the event badges still earnable?
The four Snow Biome event badges β Knitting, Ice Sculpting, Wilderness Hunting, and Reconstruction β were limited-time rewards. They are not available after the event ended.
Do the Snow Biome chests still spawn?
Yes. The Ice Chest and Cold Chest are permanent biome fixtures and continue to spawn in the Snow Biome during normal runs.
