Dragon Hunter

Description

Crafted at Hydra Island through the Dragon Hunter path, Dragonstorm is one of the few Legendary guns available in the Third Sea — and one of the most distinctly themed. Its dragon-fire aesthetic is not just cosmetic: all three moves are built around explosive, area-covering projectiles that pressure enemies from multiple angles. The basic Fireworks attack fires three bursting bullets in a barrage controlled by a heat meter, making it useful as a sustained stun tool when held down. Draconic Cascade at mastery 125 splits into two forms — a ground variant that erupts a dragon projectile upward to grab and stun nearby enemies, and an aerial variant with auto-tracking that rains dragon-shaped shots onto targets below. Infernal Comet at mastery 250 launches a dragging fire projectile that pulls enemies along, deals tick damage throughout, and scorches the ground on impact. Because Dragonstorm scales with the Gun stat, players who invest in that path will see its already high burst damage grow further. It earns strong marks against large bosses and in PvP scenarios where the stun and area denial outweigh the reload cost — just note that Rubber users are fully immune to its fire damage.

Moves & Abilities

3 moves
TAP
Fireworks

The user shoots 3 exploding bullets from the gun. Holding the attack will prolong the barrage, which is limited by a heat meter (red line under the crosshair). Can act like a stunning move when held.

Z
Draconic Cascade
Mastery 125

This move posseses two distinct variations: If used on the ground: * The user injects energy into the ground, leaving it scorched, and then shoots up a dragon-like projectile from the ground at where the cursor is pointing, which flies into the sky and then explodes, and leaves the ground behind it scorched. Anyone unfortunate enough to be close to the dragon will be grabbed up into the sky and stunned. This variant is quite similar to Dough's [X] Pastry River. If used in the air: * The user shoots up multiple, dragon-like projectiles into the sky, which then crash into the ground and explode. If an enemy is close enough to their vicinity, the projectiles will lock on to them and then explode after hitting the target. If the user holds this move long enough, they will briefly sprout a pair of fiery wings around them. This variant has auto-tracking.

X
Infernal Comet
Mastery 250

The player shoots a red fire, dragon-that pulls anyone in its way with it and then explodes into particles upon contact or once it has reached maximum range, leaving flames on the ground after exploding close enough to it. This move deals tick damage to enemies who were hit and pulled by the projectile. It tends to ricochet off of walls.

  • Long-ranged moves.
  • High damage.
  • Very good for boss farming.
  • Extremely easy to use, and good for PvP.
  • Easily stun-locks Transformed targets, near indefinitely (excluding Dragon).
  • Very high damage if all bullets hit the target.
  • Can easily damage big targets.
  • Can damage boats.
  • Great for draining Instinct especially against Buddha users
  • The air variant has auto-aim.
  • Quite difficult to dodge.
  • Breaks Instinct most of the time.
  • High damage.

Cons

11
  • Rubber users are immune, as with all guns.
  • Relatively grindy obtainment.
  • Long reload time.
  • Hard to aim in PvP.
  • Cannot damage Sea Beast and Leviathan.
  • Bullets have slight spread, leading to them not consistently landing from far range.
  • Prolonged use of the gun’s M1s often triggers anticheat, making suspicious kills and preventing bounty/honour rewards.
  • Can sometimes be Instinct-tricked.
  • Ground variant is hard to aim.
  • Requires decent aim.
  • High knockback when grinding (can be circumvented by using it as a finisher).

Trivia

10
  • 1The Dragonstorm was initially considered to be included in the new kit of the reworked Dragon fruit.
  • 2The Dragonstorm is the first and currently only gun with a holdable M1 and works like a Gatling gun.
  • 3If the user is in Buddha transformation (either version) and then uses [Z] Draconic Cascade, they will perform its air variant.
  • 4The Dragonstorm, Bizarre Revolver, along with Skull Guitar, are the only three guns that can be crafted using materials.
  • 5Despite the crafting recipe being available after obtaining Dojo Belt (Red), the Dragonstorm cannot be obtained until the player has Dragon Tether as it requires Dragon Eggs.
  • 6The Dragonstorm usually does not visually show Blessings or Curses beside Rot on the weapon, due to the point of visual effects being inside this weapon. However, small fractions of it can clip out, as like with Storm, whose Thunder effect periodically goes outside this weapon.
  • 7The Dragonstorm, Bazooka and Skull Guitar have the same exact materials needed to upgrade them to Grade 1.
  • 8If [X] Infernal Comet is cast on a wall, the attack will ricochet off of it, making the dragon explode at a different angle.
  • 9The Draco race's V4 requires the user to attain 500 Mastery on Dragonstorm and Dragonheart.
  • 10Similar to Dragonheart, this is the only gun having a compound noun as its name. The word "Dragonstorm" is not an English word and is a compound/combination of the words, "dragon" and "storm". (Another example of a compound noun would be "moveset".)

Dragonstorm — In-Depth Analysis

Identity and Rarity

Dragonstorm is a Legendary-rarity gun introduced in Update 24, craftable at Hydra Island in the Third Sea. It is one of the most versatile late-game ranged weapons available, occupying a rare niche as a gun that excels at both player-versus-player combat and large-target boss encounters. Its dragon-themed projectiles are long-ranged, deal high burst damage, and carry a stun that is particularly effective against Transformed enemies.

How to Obtain

Like its sword counterpart Dragonheart, Dragonstorm is crafted through the Dragon Hunter path at Hydra Island. It cannot be purchased with Beli — materials must be farmed through Third Sea content. Budget time accordingly, as the crafting ingredients typically require consistent runs through the area's content loop.

Role: Boss Farmer, Instinct Drainer, and PvP Threat

Dragonstorm shines brightest in boss-farming contexts. Its high damage and AoE make it ideal against Terrorshark, Ship Raids, and large bosses where its spread is a benefit rather than a drawback. In PvP, it reliably drains Instinct dodges — especially effective against Buddha users — and the aerial variant includes auto-aim for easier targeting in flight. It can also damage boats, opening Sea Beast hunting routes.

Its main weaknesses are mechanical: Rubber-fruit users are completely immune, the ground variant demands precise aim, reload time is lengthy, and extended M1 use has triggered anticheat flags that can void bounty rewards.

Tip: In PvP, alternate between the ground and air variants to create unpredictable firing angles — the air variant's auto-aim makes it particularly punishing against opponents trying to maintain distance.

Where it shines

  • Very good for boss farming.
  • Extremely easy to use, and good for PvP.
What to watch out for
  • Rubber users are immune, as with all guns.
  • Relatively grindy obtainment.
  • Long reload time.
  • Hard to aim in PvP.
  • Cannot damage Sea Beast and Leviathan.
