Waxwell in Dandy's World: stats, Ignite and what it takes to unlock him
Waxwell is a candle Toon who joined Dandy's World on August 7, 2026, in Alpha 0.25.1, an update the wiki titles "Waxwell Minor Update." He has five stars in Skill Check and five in Movement Speed, one star in Stamina, two in Stealth and two in Extraction. His one ability, Ignite, shaves time off his teammates' ability cooldowns. To unlock him you need 3,500 Ichor, 50% research on Twisted Waxwell and three Mastery quests on Goob. This guide takes those facts from the Dandy's World Wiki as of version Alpha 0.29.10 (October 23, 2026) and works through each one.
The wiki's stat table makes Waxwell easy to place: he is the only playable Toon with five stars in both Skill Check and Movement Speed (Dandy and Dyle also have them, but players can't use those two). That pairing is rare, and his one-star Stamina is the reason it is not simply a better version of everyone else. Where he lands in the rankings is covered below, and the full list is in the Dandy's World tier list.
Waxwell's stats in real numbers
Every stat is rated in stars, and the wiki's Statistics page converts each star count into a number. Here is Waxwell's line:
| Stat | Stars | What it means in the game |
|---|---|---|
| Skill Check | 5 | Window size 250, golden-zone value 3, speed 5 (the maximum) |
| Movement Speed | 5 | Walk 20, run 30 (the maximum) |
| Stamina | 1 | 100 maximum, the minimum |
| Stealth | 2 | 5 units of detection range |
| Extraction Speed | 2 | 0.85 units per second |
That is 15 stars in total, the same as most regular Toons. On the Extraction row, a Machine holds 45 units, so 0.85 per second works out to about 53 seconds per Machine if he never lands a Skill Check. A five-star extractor fills the same Machine in 30. That gap is why the wiki's own strategy notes say Waxwell relies on his Skill Checks to make progress and recommends trinkets such as Magnifying Glass or Participation Award.
On the tier list, Waxwell scores 27.5 and sits in A tier, tied with Brusha and Squirm. The score comes from a stat formula, not from play. His ability points are 2, since Ignite's 60 second cooldown is longer than the 45 second cutoff for a full 3.
Ignite: what the ability does
Waxwell has one ability, Ignite, an Active with a 60 second cooldown. When it is on, Waxwell lights his flame. For 10 seconds he loses his Tired II debuff, and he leaves a flame trail wherever he walks. Any Toon who touches the trail receives the Ignited buff, which makes their ability cooldowns recover twice as fast for 5 seconds. It doesn't stack, and it has no effect on other Waxwells.
Two details matter more than they look. First, Tired II is a debuff that slows Stamina regeneration, and the wiki says Waxwell has it almost all the time, so Ignite is also the only window where his one-star Stamina bar refills at a normal rate. Second, the wiki notes that Waxwell is the only Toon immune to a buff, which here is Ignited: his own flames do nothing to him.
The wiki's strategy page puts a number on the support value. A teammate who stands in the flames for the minimum 10 seconds, plus 5 seconds of lingering effect, saves roughly 30 seconds off a cooldown. Following the whole trail could cut close to 50. Each flame lasts 10 seconds, so a full trail lasts around 20 seconds from the first flame to the last. Those are the wiki's estimates, and they assume Waxwell keeps moving for the whole duration of the ability.
The wiki names Shelly and Squirm as two Toons whose abilities benefit from that. Because Waxwell has to move to make a trail, using it means giving up some extraction time. The ability also gives off a little light during a Blackout.
What you need to unlock Waxwell
The wiki lists three requirements, and each one is harder than it looks.
| Requirement | Detail |
|---|---|
| Research | 50% on Twisted Waxwell, a Rare Twisted |
| Mastery | 3 of Goob's 6 Mastery quests |
| Ichor | 3,500, the highest price of any non-Main Toon |
50% research on Twisted Waxwell
Research comes from two sources. Each Twisted that spawns on a floor brings two Research Capsules worth 1% each, and meeting the Twisted gives 5%, once per floor. A floor where Twisted Waxwell spawns can therefore give about 7%. Seven such floors reach only 49%, so the first spawn that crosses 50% is the eighth. Play as Rodger and the numbers double: 14% per spawn, and four spawns clear 50%. Rodger costs 1,000 Ichor and needs 50% research on any Twisted, so he is only an option once you have already started.
Twisted Waxwell is Rare, and the starting spawn weight for Rare is 10 out of 110, rising by 1 every 2 floors from floor 5. Two things help. The Daily Twisted Board makes one Twisted more likely for 24 hours, resetting at 12:00 AM GMT; the wiki's Waxwell page says the research is easier when he is on it. And during a Toon of the Week, the board is overridden for the first two days or so.
The Twisted itself is harmless. The wiki says Twisted Waxwell cannot hurt a Toon directly. He runs away from any Toon in his viewing range, and his flame goes out if a Toon enters the small ring around him. You get research by walking into him, so a fast Toon has an easy time.
Three Mastery quests on Goob
Mastery is a set of six quests per Toon, and Waxwell asks for only three of Goob's. Here are all six, so you can pick the cheapest:
- Use Goob's ability, Hug!, 100 times.
- Survive 3 floors with 4 other players in the round.
- Travel 100,000 meters.
- Pick up 80 items.
- Survive 25 floors with Scraps in your round.
- Use 80 items.
Quest progress only counts while you are playing Goob. The wiki's advice is to pick the easiest three. Goob himself costs 1,750 Ichor and needs three Mastery quests on Scraps. Scraps costs 1,500 Ichor and needs 50% research on Twisted Goob.
3,500 Ichor
Ichor comes from finishing Machines (5 each), picking up Research Capsules (2 each), using an Active ability (5, once per floor) and, only after dying, completing a floor (5) or meeting a Twisted for the first time (1). The wiki's Waxwell page says to focus on capsules and Machines, because their numbers grow as you go deeper. At 5 per Machine, 3,500 Ichor is the equivalent of 700 Machines, though capsules and abilities make that smaller in practice. The wiki's Ichor page calls Waxwell the most expensive Toon that is not a Main Character.
The whole chain
Put together, here is what you need if you start from nothing on this line of Toons:
| Step | Toon | Ichor | Gate |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Scraps | 1,500 | 50% research on Twisted Goob |
| 2 | Goob | 1,750 | 3 Mastery quests on Scraps |
| 3 | Waxwell | 3,500 | 3 Mastery quests on Goob and 50% on Twisted Waxwell |
That is 6,750 Ichor, plus two research targets and six Mastery quests across two Toons. The full unlock table for every Toon, with the other gates, is in the unlock guide.
Twisted Waxwell and the Cherished Blanket
Twisted Waxwell is a Rare Twisted. According to the wiki he moves at 8 while his flame is out, 18 while it is lit and 20 while it is being put out. Panic Mode raises those to 9.6, 21.6 and 24. His attention span is 3 seconds and his detection range is 20.
The danger he poses is indirect. Twisted Waxwell leaves a trail of flames, and any Twisted that walks on it gets Ignited for 30 seconds or until his flame is put out. For Twisteds that means a wider vision range and a shorter attack cooldown. The wiki warns that the cooldown cut is the real problem against Main Character Twisteds, and that ranged Twisteds such as Goob, Scraps, Gigi and Sprout fire more often while Ignited. Its advice is to send a fast Toon to put his flame out, and to avoid distracting ranged Twisteds if Ignited ones are around, unless you can dodge well.
Reaching 100% research on him unlocks the Cherished Blanket, which lengthens trails made by your abilities by 4 seconds. In practice that affects Waxwell and no other Toon, and the wiki calls the gain small. It is still required for one thing: Waxwell's own Mastery asks you to finish floor 10 with the Blanket equipped.
Waxwell's Mastery and skins
Waxwell has the same six-quest Mastery set as every Toon. The reward for completing all six is his Vintage skin. His quests are:
- Use his Active ability 80 times.
- Experience 8 Blackouts.
- Complete 60 Duo Machines with another player.
- Complete floor 10 with the Cherished Blanket equipped.
- Travel 111,000 meters.
- Use 30 Instructions, an item.
For the Instructions quest, the wiki suggests collecting Tapes to get more Dandy's Store rerolls, or asking a Bassie to buy and share the item. Besides Vintage, Waxwell has two other skins: Villainous Casual, added with him on August 7, and Toxic Experiment, a Halloween 2026 skin sold in Gourdy's Store.
How to play him, according to the wiki
The wiki's strategy page describes three roles. As a distractor, five-star Movement and two-star Stealth make him a strong one, but the one-star Stamina and the Tired II debuff drain fast, so it suggests pairing him with Astro or Tisha, or using mobility trinkets such as Dog Plush and Cooler. Selecting both Well-Paced and Endurance cards lifts his capacity to 120.
As an extractor, five-star Skill Check makes him reliable on Machines, although low Extraction Speed means he leans on Skill Checks. Treadmill Machines suit his movement, and the wiki says Barnaby Machines are a good fit because his Skill Check is high. As a support, Ignite is the whole point, particularly alongside Toons with long cooldowns.
On Dyle's Floor, the wiki rates him well: the maximum Skill Check keeps failures down, and the +50 Stamina reward for finishing the floor, added to the two cards, puts his capacity near 170.
The newest Toons by release date
Waxwell is the most recent Toon in the wiki's data. In fact only two Toons were added in 2026: Squirm on February 27 (Alpha 0.16.1) and Waxwell on August 7. The Halloween Toons that returned on October 2 were first released in October 2025. Here are the thirteen newest, sorted by release date:

No new Toon has come since Waxwell. The updates after him were Brusha's Week (August 14), the Profiles update (September 4), Gigi's Week (September 18) and the Halloween patches that began on October 2. The wiki's changelog lists Part Five of the Halloween event for October 30 and another Toon-of-the-Week update for November 6, both without confirmed contents.
Squirm is worth a line of comparison, since he is the only other 2026 arrival. He costs 3,000 Ichor, needs 50% research on Twisted Squirm and three Titles, and has five-star Extraction. His ability, Distressed Delicacy, gives 100% Extraction Speed for 10 seconds while he eats books, and his cooldown recovers twice as fast near a bookshelf. His research trinket, the Stress Ball, adds 5% Extraction Speed per Skill Check hit, lasting 15 seconds and stacking. Waxwell's Ignite can cut Squirm's cooldown, one of the pairings the wiki mentions.
