Caw

Caws are the only birds in The Outdoors, and the only creatures there that actively help you. They look like pied crows, with dark gray feathers and a white underbelly, and they appear on The Outdoors and in the Trick Or Treat vision. Added on August 10, 2025, they are friendly and cannot hurt you.

What they tell you

A Caw may rest on the ground or perch on a lamppost or tree. Get close and it cries out loudly before flying away. That cry is useful: Caws warn of approaching entities such as Surge or the Groundskeeper. They also tend to perch near Lotus Petals and Iron Keys, so a bird sitting somewhere odd often means a pickup nearby.

Feeding them

Drop or equip Bread near a Caw and you feed it, which unlocks the "Feed the Birds" achievement. A fed Caw boosts the spawn rate of Lotus Petals and Iron Keys, which matters because eight petals are what Grampy needs to grow you a Lotus. In the 2025 Trick or Treat vision, the Caws wear bat-ear headbands and bat wings, and Candy Bags replace petals.
