Dread

Dread is the only entity in DOORS that punishes you for standing still. It spawns when the in-game clock reaches midnight while you stay in a single room, and it kills on contact with instant death. It was planned for The Hotel+ Update, appeared as a secret entity in The Hunt Update on March 15, 2024 and was fully added in The Mines Update.

The warning signs

The room's lights flicker for longer than usual, you suddenly hear your own breathing and the screen loses contrast. Then every light goes out, the screen darkens with a black vignette and a grayscale tint, and a nearly invisible Dread begins to follow you slowly while whispers grow louder as it nears. When it reaches you it immobilizes you with a static-like texture.

Beating the clock

Every time anyone opens a door the clock resets to 11:00, so simply keep moving. Wall clocks, grandfather clocks and the Alarm Clock show the time. The time passes faster the further you are into the floor: the base limit starts at 300 seconds and drops 2.5 seconds per room, down to 50. Locked exits, generator rooms and basements with levers add extra time. If Dread already spawned, opening the next door despawns it and grants the Dead of Night achievement. A Crucifix also works on it.
