Charles

Charles lives inside a game cartridge, and it only wakes up when you plug that cartridge into a Scanner. The drive looks like a Nintendo DS-style cartridge whose label shows a smiling white blob carrying a basket under the word EGG. It is a secret in The Mines that you do not need for progress: trade any module you found in The Stairwell to Louie and he hands you the EGG module.

The egg game

With the module installed and switched on, Inspect Item starts the game instead of inspecting. You control the blob across three lanes and must catch Eggs while avoiding Rotten Eggs. You have 3 lives, and missing an Egg or catching a Rotten one costs one. Beat 3 rounds and you "win", entering INFINITE MODE where losing has no consequence. Your score is saved as a High Score under the first three letters of your username until you change floors.

When it bites

Lose all 3 lives before finishing the third round and Charles takes over the Scanner, clamping down on your hand for 40 damage. If your health is below 40, it bites your head and kills you. Uninstalling the module after losing makes the game call you a cheater next time. Picking up a Scanner with the EGG module while holding a Crucifix crucifies Charles and turns the module into the one you traded. It was added on October 10, 2026.
