How to survive Dupe
- Dupe's fake doors are marked with incorrect room numbers.
- Interacting with the lock on a Dupe door also triggers its attack.
- Dupe scrambles plaque numbers after a delay that shrinks as you progress.
- Ambience noises such as rain, fire or clocks only play behind real doors.
- With an odd number of doors, the real door has the median plaque number.

Where Dupe appears
Dupe guide
Dupe lies about door numbers. In rooms with several numbered doorways it spawns false doors with wrong plaques, and the one who opens a fake pays 40 damage: Dupe leans out, bites, throws the player to the floor and slams the door. It arrived with The Hotel+ Update on January 28, 2023 and is found in The Hotel and The Mines.
The trick behind it
A single room can hold 8 or 9 fake doors. A while after you open a new door, Dupe scrambles the plaques of all previous doors and any Room Key, and the delay shortens as you progress. Dupe doors can appear in locked rooms, and touching the lock on one triggers the attack. It cannot spawn in a room with only one door, such as The Library, The Grand Hallway or The Electrical Room.
Reading the right door
Real doors carry ambience, such as rain, fire or clocks; fake ones do not. If the number of doors is odd, line up the plaques in order: the real one holds the median number. Two doors sharing the same number means neither is correct. In dark rooms a fake door usually just scrambles its number instead of opening, which makes Dupe harmless there. If Rush or Ambush passes through, they always use the correct door.
