Mackerel guide

Mackerel is a Common fish of The Ocean, caught with Shrimp during the day under Foggy weather in Spring or Autumn. It is a fast, silver, striped fish, and the listing notes that it is most active between spring and autumn in mild weather.

Do not cast for it expecting money. An average catch of 2.5 kg (1 to 8.2 kg) sells at C$19 per kg for C$48, rank 658 of the 742 documented fish by value, and its maximum weight is 492 of 663. The 80 base XP is a little more useful than the price, especially while you are still levelling.

You will not find it alone. Mussel, Mullet, Porgy, Sand Dollar, Sardine and Sea Bass share its rarity and zone, so a cast in The Ocean can return any of those seven common catches. That crowding is the real obstacle: the specific Foggy-day, Shrimp combination is what tilts the odds toward Mackerel, but the data does not give a catch rate.

Use it as a supporting catch. If you are fishing The Ocean anyway, keep Shrimp ready and sell Mackerel as it comes. A dedicated session for it would pay badly.
