Mussel

“Mussels are small mollusc that can be easily found on rocks, near beaches, and near docks. They actually have one food and have very limited movement, so most mussels stay in one place their entire lives.. thats boring!”— in-game Bestiary description

Mussel guide

The Mussel is about as small as a Fisch catch gets. It is a Common fish from The Ocean with an average weight of just 0.1 kg, caught with Crab Cages as bait in Winter, at any time of day and in any weather.

Its price per kg of C$100 sounds respectable, but at 0.1 kg the average sale is only C$10, 728th of the 742 documented fish by average value. It gives 35 base XP. In other words, only fourteen documented fish are worth less on average, so it sits close to the bottom of the ranking.

Other Common fish found in The Ocean are Mackerel, Mullet, Porgy, Sand Dollar, Sardine and Sea Bass. That list tells you how crowded the starting waters are: when you fish there, you can bring up any of these, and the mussel is the one with the smallest payout.

My advice is blunt. Do not aim for it. If it comes up while you are leveling in The Ocean, sell it and move on, or keep it only if you are building a full record of the fish you have caught. Its Crab Cages bait is its only distinctive feature. There are far better uses of your time and cast count.
