Cultist — In-Depth Analysis
The Cultists are the recurring human antagonists of 99 Nights in the Forest, a cult that worships The Deer, and they are firmly Hostile. Their listed walkspeed of 12 matches your basic survivors, so they are not fast, but the threat comes from numbers and timing rather than raw speed. The name covers a whole family of variants, from Axe and Crossbow Cultists up to Jugger, Mega, Shadow, Darkstring and Brutal types, each scaling in danger.
You meet them in two situations, and both demand respect. First, they guard buildings that often contain valuable items, so any loot run into a structure may turn into a fight. Second, and more dangerous, they launch periodic raids roughly every four nights, marching on your Campfire after dark to attack it and your survivors directly.
Because raids are scheduled, the smartest play is preparation: build up walls and defenders before the four-night mark, keep healing food ready, and station strong weapons at camp. When looting buildings, clear melee Axe Cultists up close but break line of sight against ranged variants. Treat every Cultist as a sign that better gear, and a tougher boss, lies deeper in the forest.
