Christmas Elves — In-Depth Analysis
The Christmas Elves are not enemies at all, so do not approach them with a combat mindset. They are flagged as Passive and carry no HP, damage, or walkspeed values, which fits their role as Christmas-Exclusive Entities added during the Christmas Update. They will never attack you, raid the campfire, or threaten your survivors at night.
Instead of fighting them, the entire point is to rescue them. Elves appear stuck or trapped around the world in several forms, and you free them using special tools rather than weapons. The render names hint at the variety you will run into: a Tree Elf, a Skate Elf, a Ring Elf, and a Buried Elf, each found in its own predicament during the seasonal event.
The payoff is substantial. In exchange for rescuing them, the Elves reward you with Presents that contain powerful items, making them one of the most worthwhile detours of the Christmas period. Treat every Elf you spot as a small puzzle and a guaranteed gift rather than a danger: bring the correct rescue tool, free them, and collect the loot. Outside the holiday event they will not appear at all, so grab the rewards while the season is live.
