Axes

Weapons in 99 Nights in the Forest

Category: WeaponsObtained from: The Old Axe appears in the player's inventory upon spawning into a game, except if they have the Lumberjack class equipped.

About

Axes are Items in 99 Nights in the Forest used to cut down trees, damage Entities and break Ice. Players begin the game with an Old Axe, while the Good Axe and Strong Axe can be found in Chests or acquired through trading with the Pelt Trader. Additionally, the Ice Axe can be found in Ice Chests. There is also the Chainsaw, which is obtainable through Ruby Chests or crafting in the Workshop. There was also an Admin Axe which was present for a very limited time during Update Parties, which could cut down any tree with one swing. It resembled the Old Axe but larger and without rust. However, the Admin Axe can't be obtained outside the Update Party.

Axes — In-Depth Analysis

The Axe is your single most important survival tool, and you start every run already holding one. Every player spawns with the Old Axe unless they pick the Lumberjack class, so you never have to scramble for a way to chop logs, smash ice or fend off entities on Night 1. Logs are the backbone of fires, walls and crafting, which makes a working axe the difference between a stocked camp and a frozen corpse.

The real progression is upgrading away from that rusty starter. The Good Axe and Strong Axe come from Chests or from trading with the Pelt Trader, while the Ice Axe drops from Ice Chests and the Chainsaw appears in Ruby Chests or can be built at the Workshop. Each step up chops trees in fewer swings and deals more damage, so it directly buys you time during the night.

Is it worth grabbing? Always. There is no scenario where a better axe hurts you, and the Chainsaw in particular turns a long log run into seconds. Prioritize any chest axe you see, and lean on the Pelt Trader once you have spare pelts to convert. Skip only the Admin Axe talk, since that Update Party item is no longer obtainable.
