Pelt Trader — In-Depth Analysis
The Pelt Trader is a peaceful merchant NPC, so there is no threat level here at all: he has no HP, damage, or aggression, and he will never attack you. His entire purpose is economic. He is the player who turns the hunting half of 99 Nights in the Forest into real survival gear, converting animal pelts into Axes, Armor, Ammunition, Sacks, Guns, and Flashlights.
Because he buys pelts, every hostile mammal you down feeds directly into his stock. That makes him the natural endpoint of a hunting loop: kill wolves, bears, and other fur-bearing creatures, haul the pelts back, and cash them in for the equipment that lets you survive deeper into the run. The Guns and Ammunition he offers are especially valuable, since ranged firepower is one of the few reliable answers to the game's tankier threats.
Tactically, treat the Pelt Trader as a priority to find early. Prioritize selling pelts for a Gun and a Sack first if you can afford them, since carrying capacity and ranged damage compound across the whole playthrough. He is not a combat encounter, but the upgrades he sells often decide whether a fight elsewhere goes your way.
