Riot Shield — In-Depth Analysis
The Riot Shield is a defensive armor item in 99 Nights in the Forest that works differently from worn gear. Instead of sitting in an armor slot, it is held in hand, and while held it reduces all incoming damage and blocks every arrow fired at its bearer. That arrow immunity is the standout trait, turning the shield into a hard counter against ranged cultist attackers who would otherwise whittle you down from afar.
Crucially, it can be used in tandem with other Armors, so the damage reduction stacks on top of whatever chestpiece or helmet you already wear. The trade-off is that holding the shield occupies your hand, meaning you cannot swing a weapon at the same time, so it shines most when you need to advance through arrow fire or shield a downed teammate.
Is it worth grabbing? For defensive and support playstyles, very much so. Pair the Riot Shield with a gun-wielding ally and you become a near-unstoppable frontline, soaking projectiles while they deal damage. Solo players will value it during cultist sieges, swapping to it whenever arrows start flying.
