Hide

Hide is the reason you cannot camp in a closet. It lives in hiding spots in The Hotel and The Mines and exists to push out players who stay too long. For years nobody knew what it looked like, since it was read as two white glowing eyes; since The Mines Update it is a red many-eyed face with a split screaming mouth and a mist of ghostly faces around it.

The timer

After about 12 seconds inside, your screen pulses red, the words "Get Out" flash and outside sounds become muffled. Stay and Hide shoves you out for 40 damage, leaving you exposed to Rush or Ambush. Afterwards you cannot hide for roughly 10 seconds and the game says "Something is stopping me from hiding...". It grows more aggressive as you progress, especially after Doors 50 and 150, and is absent from The Rooms, The Backdoor and The Outdoors.

Mines rule and heartbeat minigame

In The Mines, or with the New Roommate modifier, Hide waits in the last spot you used, so pick a different one; entering with a Crucifix in hand crucifies it. When Figure is checking your closet a heart appears and you press Q and E, or tap the sides on mobile, as each half overlaps it. Win and Hide ejects you without damage or a hiding penalty. Hide does not attack in The Electrical Room.
