Where Stem appears

Stem guide

Stems are small clay-like spheres covered in bumps, in orange, green and blue and, rarely, gold, some with eyes, noses, ears or mouths stuck on. They live in the cubbies and containers of The Stairwell's Depot rooms, were added on August 28, 2026 and are among the most common things you meet there.

What they do

Opening a container can release one to four Stems. They roll toward the nearest player and ram or bite for 5 health per hit. You can destroy one by picking it up and dropping or throwing it four times, which also gives the "Bubble Popping" badge. If enough of them cluster, they form docile Stem Structures: the community calls them Rotators, Eye Towers, Stem People and Stem Faces. These do nothing unless you grab a piece.

Ceramic and gold

Fire Sprinklers harden a Stem into a Ceramic Stem, which you can grind into scrap; grinding a whole ceramic structure pays more. That scrap also earns the "Clay World" badge. A Golden Stem can appear in containers and gives 250 gold when blown out, but it cannot be baked. A crowd of Stems is a good reason to force a Meld door with fire.
