Batteries guide
Batteries look like ordinary AA cells with an orange and black body and white metal ends, and they are the way to keep electric light sources alive. They can be found inside containers and drawers or on top of tables, and they can appear as early as Door 0 and in The Adit. In The Rooms they lie frequently on the floor and on tables, so flashlights seldom die there.
How much each light gets
A picked-up Battery recharges a fixed share of whatever it is used on:
- Bulklight: 25%
- Flashlight: 50%
- Straplight: 100%
- Laser Pointer: 100%
The Scanner works differently: each Battery refills two of its four bars. A Battery Pack, found in The Mines, can store up to four batteries so they can be used when the player wants.
Pickup rules
A player with no compatible light and no Battery Pack cannot pick one up, and neither can someone whose lights are fully charged or whose Battery Pack is full. As of The Mines update, batteries can spawn regardless of what the players carry. After The Hunt update they became less common but give more power, and before Hotel+ the screen told the player they used the battery on the Flashlight, a message later replaced by the durability bar rising.
