Briefcase guide
The Briefcase is the one item in DOORS that turns a single inventory slot into three. It waits at the very end of The Archives, in room Z-50, and that is the only place it can be picked up. Its wiki entry adds that it cannot be spawned from the Admin Panel either, so there is no shortcut around the trip.
Right-clicking it opens a view with three wooden rectangles, each showing a picture of whatever is stored there. Pick items up while a slot is free and they go inside; drop one and it lands in front of you, ready to be grabbed again.
What it refuses to hold
Not everything fits. The Lunch Box, the CD-1 disk and the Paper Cup are excluded, and so are illegal event items such as the Gold Blaster and the Knockback Stick.
Why it matters for the Rift
A Briefcase can itself be stored in the Rift, so one Rift slot can carry three items. The wiki describes pairing it with a Starlight rift that holds another item, keeping both rifts open and putting the case back in, which gives a permanent three-item stash at the start and end of each run. Escaping The Archives at Z-50 also earns the Z-50 achievement. Before The Archives update, the item at A-1000 was a Starlight Jug instead.
