CD-1 guide
CD-1 is the strangest item in The Archives because it is designed to make a later floor harder. It is a plain disc with "CD-1" scribbled on it in marker, and its in-game gallery name is Ransom's Disk. The only place to find it is the side room at S-50, Archival Storage.
Getting it
Walk up to Ransom's computer, click the icon in the bottom-left corner and press the eject button. Leave the computer's interface and pick up the disc.
Using it
The disc does nothing in The Archives. You have to carry it all the way to The Stairwell and insert it into one of Noise's televisions. Ransom then hacks the set, and Noise turns into Hijack. The use grants an achievement.
Why it is hard
- You must keep it in your hand through the rest of The Archives, then The Hotel, then The Mines, until you reach The Stairwell.
- It cannot be stored in a Briefcase and cannot be rifted.
- It takes an inventory slot the whole time.
The wiki mentions one use: a self-imposed challenge where Hijack spawns on the landing you are in, with Ransom appearing on later landings. It also notes that the item makes the game harder, so it is meant for players who want a harsher run.
