Shears

Five cuts and then the Shears break. That limit shapes everything about this tool, which opens vine-covered chests, clears blocked passages in The Mines and unlocks side rooms covered in vines in The Mines and The Outdoors. With a Skeleton Key, it is also how you get into The Outdoors.

Jeff sells it in The Mines for 300 Gold, and the Pre-Run Shop in The Outdoors asks 150 Knobs. You can also find a pair in the small toolsheds of The Courtyard, The Mines and The Outdoors. The wiki says it is guaranteed to spawn in The Hotel and The Outdoors, and that only one can be held per player.

Planning around the five uses

The Hotel gives it very little to do, so the wiki advises storing the Shears in the Rift when you find them in The Courtyard, saving them for The Mines and especially The Nest, where they cut vines for shortcuts. They also open the secret basement in The Courtyard.

From Louie

Giving Louie a Starlight Jug guarantees a pair of Shears in return. A Starlight Bottle or a Moonlight Candle gives a 50% chance, and a Crucifix used against him a 33.33% chance.

It first arrived in The Hotel+ Update only through exploits and was properly added in The Mines Update, alongside the Alarm Clock.
