Skeleton Key guide
A Skeleton Key has five uses, but a single Skull Lock eats four of them. That one detail explains why the key is priced at 300 Gold in Jeff's Shop, and why it is guaranteed to be in stock in both The Hotel and The Mines.
The wiki says it opens any locked door or container for one use of durability, and a key with less than four uses left can still open a Skull Lock. Only one can be carried at a time. It cannot be used on Generators.
Skull Locks
These locks only respond to the Skeleton Key and appear in three situations:
- Midway through a run in The Hotel and The Mines, as the entrance to a Rift.
- In The Infirmary, to unlock the Herb of Viridis effect.
- At subfloor entrances: The Outdoors at Door 90 and 99, The Archives at Door 60, and The Stairwell at Door 152.
It can also open locked treasure chests and the Circuit Breaker Puzzle door in The Electrical Room.
Price history
Before the SUPER HARD MODE update it cost 250 Gold; after it, 400; now 300. In the legacy Pre-Run Shop it cost 100 Knobs and was advertised as "Five uses, holds secrets".
