Aurora Rod review
Aurora Rod is sold in Vertigo for C$70,000 and its whole point is the mutation it adds: every fish has a 15% chance to carry the Aurora Mutation, and that chance increases during the Aurora Borealis. It also has masteries.
The base stats are the cost of that perk. 60 Luck ranks 148th of 184 obtainable rods, Lure Speed of 45 ranks 139th, Control of 0.06 ranks 109th of 185 and Resilience of 16 ranks 104th. The 6,000 kg limit ranks 74th of 117, which is middling. So you give up rarity odds and bite speed for a steady chance at a mutated catch.
On price, you can find rods with equal or higher Luck for less: Avalanche Rod (68 Luck, C$35,000), Brick Rod (75 Luck, C$13,337) and Cinder Block Rod (300 Luck, C$50,000). That means Aurora Rod is not the efficient pick for pure rare-fish hunting. Nocturnal Rod is the only other rod sold in Vertigo.
Verdict: buy it if you want Aurora-mutated fish and plan to fish when the Aurora Borealis is active. If you only care about stats per coin, the cheaper options win clearly.
