Challenger's Rod review

Challenger's Rod is a late-game purchase at C$750,000, sold in Mariana's Veil (Challenger's Deep). It has a passive tied to progress: a Progress Speed of 25, which the in-game text describes as rewarding precise skill with accelerated progress.

The stat line is Luck 190, Lure Speed 95, Control 0.2, Resilience 35 and a very low maximum weight of 200 kg. Luck ranks 52nd of 184 obtainable rods and Lure Speed 37th, so it finds fish quickly and reaches rare ones. Control is 29th of 185. The catch is weight: the 200 kg cap is 100th of 117 rods that list a limit, so very heavy fish are out of reach.

Price is the question. Cinder Block Rod (Luck 300, C$50,000), Destiny Rod (Luck 250, C$190,000) and Cupid's Embrace (Luck 214, C$15,000) all give more Luck for much less money. Challenger's Rod is clearly not the efficient way to buy Luck.

It makes sense for players who value the Progress Speed passive and fast bites, and who already have the C$750,000. If you only want Luck per coin, the three cheaper rods above are better deals, and Cupid's Embrace costs a fiftieth of the price.
