Update 8 turned Steal an Egg pets into something you can ride. It added Mounts, a rare nightly Shooting Star event, a shop NPC called Stellaris the Star Handler and a new Nitro Race event with its own Trophies and Win Pass. This page explains exactly what the official patch notes say, what they leave out, and how to pick the pet you turn into a mount using the income data we do have.

What Update 8 "Mounts" added
Release date and time
Update 8 was released on Saturday, October 10, 2026, at 15:00 UTC, according to the game's official Roblox event "Mounts are coming! — Ride your pets!". The teaser line in the notes sums it up: collecting pets was only the beginning, and now you can hop on them. You can see every earlier update in our update log.
The three new systems at a glance
Update 8 is really three systems that work together. The table below is the short version.
| System | How it works | What you get |
|---|---|---|
| Shooting Stars | A rare chance each night that a star falls on the server | 1 Shooting Star for every eligible player |
| Stellaris the Star Handler | An NPC that sells Shooting Stars | Up to 5 Shooting Stars per week, reset every Saturday |
| Mounts | Use 1 Shooting Star on a pet you own | That pet becomes a mount, permanently |
| Nitro Race | A race every 30 minutes against other players | Trophies, plus Win Pass progress when you finish 1st |
How to get a Shooting Star
A Shooting Star is the item that turns a pet into a mount. There are only two ways to get one, and both have limits.
The nightly Shooting Star event
Every night in Steal an Egg there is a rare chance of a Shooting Star event. The sky turns dark and a star falls. When that happens, every eligible player in the server receives a Shooting Star, so you don't have to race anyone for it.
The notes do not give the exact chance, so nobody can tell you how many nights you'll wait. Treat it as a bonus that may or may not happen during your session.
Why server hopping doesn't work
To be eligible, you must have been in the server from the start of that in-game day. Joining a server where night has already begun won't give you the star. That rules out the classic trick of hopping between servers to look for one.
The useful habit is simple: stay in the same server through a full day-night cycle. If you want to change servers, do it before a new day starts, not in the middle of one.

Buying from Stellaris the Star Handler
Stellaris the Star Handler sells Shooting Stars. You can buy up to 5 per week, and the purchase limit resets every Saturday. The notes don't list the price, and the wiki doesn't have it yet, so we can't tell you what a star costs.
| Source | Limit | Requirement |
|---|---|---|
| Nightly Shooting Star event | Rare chance each night; exact odds not published | Be in the server from the start of that in-game day |
| Stellaris the Star Handler | 5 Shooting Stars per week | Purchase limit resets every Saturday; price not documented yet |
How to turn a pet into a mount
Step by step
- 1Get a Shooting Star, either from a nightly star event or from Stellaris.
- 2Take the Shooting Star to the pet you want to ride.
- 3Activate the Shooting Star on that pet.
- 4The pet becomes a mount and the star is used up.
1 Shooting Star per mount, consumed and permanent
Each mount costs exactly 1 Shooting Star, and that star is consumed. The notes are clear that the change can't be undone. If you pick the wrong pet, there's no button to get the star back.
Choosing which pet to mount
What the patch notes say (and don't say)
The official notes say "your favorite pet" and nothing more. They don't say whether mounts have different speeds, whether rarity or income changes how a mount performs, or whether a mounted pet keeps earning money in your pen. Until the wiki or the developers confirm those details, any "best mount" ranking you see online is a guess.
So instead of guessing stats, use the facts that are certain: the change is permanent, stars are limited, and your pets have known incomes.
- 1Pick a pet you plan to keep. You can't swap a mount later, so avoid pets you might trade in at the Rift or Dr. Scramble's Laboratory.
- 2Don't risk your only top earner. Nobody has confirmed whether a mount keeps producing income. If you have two copies of a pet, mounting the copy with the lower income is the safer choice.
- 3Remember that income stacks. According to the formula the wiki documents, final income is base income × mutation multiplier × size multiplier. A Rainbow copy (3.5×) of the same pet earns more than a plain one, so keep that one working.
- 4Save a star if you're unsure. A Shooting Star in your inventory keeps its options open. A mount does not.
Your highest-income pets as a reference
If you're deciding between strong pets, it helps to know where they sit. These are the ten highest base incomes in our data, from the wiki's pet tables. Base income ignores mutations and size, and it is not a mount stat.
| # | Pet | Rarity | Base income | Where it comes from |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Skeletal Sabertooth | Divine | $9B/s | Skeletal Egg |
| 2 | Mecha Scrambler | Divine | $7.5B/s | Event (Mecha Scrambler Egg) |
| 3 | Aetheron | Divine | $6.9B/s | Secret Shrine fusion, Angels & Demons |
| 4 | Luminous Cthulhu | Divine | $6.5B/s | Luminous Reroll Egg |
| 5 | ArchAngel | Divine | $5B/s | Angels & Demons |
| 6 | World Burner | Divine | $5B/s | Angels & Demons |
| 7 | Sabertooth | Divine | $5B/s | Extinction Egg |
| 8 | Mecha Dreadscale | Monster | $4B/s | Mecha Egg |
| 9 | Octophant | Divine | $4B/s | Unstable Egg |
| 10 | Skeletal Gigantus | Eternal | $4B/s | Skeletal Egg |
Our full, sortable list of 198 pets is on the pets page, and the income calculator applies mutation and size to any of them.

If you'd rather choose by looks, Divine pets from the biomes such as Kitsune and Unicorn are other options. Their base incomes are lower than the top of the table, which matters only if mounting turns out to affect income.

Nitro Race event
A race every 30 minutes
The Nitro Race starts every 30 minutes. You race against other players in the server to earn Trophies. It joins two other timed events that also run on a 30-minute rhythm, so a long session gives you several chances at each.
| Event | Added in | Every | Currency | Spent on |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Rift Event | Update 3 | 30 minutes | Boss Tokens | Cash and Speed multipliers, Treadmill boosters, Mutation Shard |
| Dr. Scramble | Update 5 | 30 minutes | Samples | Experiment Shop rewards |
| Nitro Race | Update 8 | 30 minutes | Trophies | Boosters, Nitro Mutation, a rare bat |
What Trophies buy
The notes list three things you can spend Trophies on:
- Boosters. The notes don't say which stats they boost or for how long.
- Nitro Mutation consumables. This is a new mutation item. Its multiplier and success chance aren't published yet, and it isn't on our mutations list until the wiki adds it.
- An exclusive rare bat. It's only available with Trophies. Its name and stats aren't published yet.
Win Pass: 5 race-mount pets
Taking 1st place in a Nitro Race moves your Win Pass forward. The pass has 5 new pets unlocked at win milestones. You hatch them and use them as exclusive race mounts from the event menu. The notes don't name the five pets or say how many wins each milestone needs.

Shooting Star mounts vs Nitro Race mounts
These are two different kinds of mount, and it's easy to mix them up.
| Shooting Star mount | Nitro Race mount | |
|---|---|---|
| Which pet | Any pet you own that you choose | One of the 5 Win Pass pets |
| How you get it | Use 1 Shooting Star on the pet | Reach Win Pass milestones by finishing 1st |
| Cost | 1 Shooting Star, consumed | Race wins; no star mentioned in the notes |
| Can it be undone | No | Not stated |
| Where you use it | Not limited in the notes | Exclusive race mounts, inside the event menu |
| Stats | Not documented | Not documented |
The practical takeaway: the Nitro Race gives you race mounts without spending your limited Shooting Stars. Your stars can go to a pet you really care about.
What comes next: Halloween Dimension
The Update 8 notes announce a two-part Halloween event and a new dimension for the following week. The game's official Roblox event lists Halloween Dimension for Saturday, October 17, 2026, with a gateway structure, bosses and secret eggs. We'll add the details to the update log once the notes are out.

FAQ
How do you get mounts in Steal an Egg?
Get a Shooting Star from a nightly star event or from Stellaris the Star Handler, take it to a pet and activate it. That pet becomes a mount. You can also unlock 5 race mounts through the Nitro Race Win Pass.
How many Shooting Stars can you buy from Stellaris?
Up to 5 per week. The purchase limit resets every Saturday. The price hasn't been documented yet.
Can you get a Shooting Star by server hopping?
No. You must be in the server from the start of the in-game day to receive the star, so joining a server mid-night doesn't count.
Can you undo a mount?
