How to get Deadly Ninja

Free (formerly an Early Access character). Updates page, July 2 2023: 'Deadly Ninja is now free'.

Passives

Flash Steps

Teleport Side Dashes: while executing a finisher or in the ultimate state, the user can perform many rapid lateral dashes with virtually no cooldown. Gain 3 on a finisher and 20 during the Ultimate; it does not stack but can be reset by hitting a finisher. With the awakening outfit gamepass, side dashing and using Fourfold Flashstrike turns the user invisible until the next passive side dash.

Ninjatō

Listed in the infobox as a passive; it is the M1 set with the equipped ninjato (a short straight-bladed sword).

Base moves

M1 Ninjatō — Two sword slashes followed by a right kick and a left spinning kick, with increased knockback on the final hit and a medium swing rate.

  • 1Flash Strike

The user draws the sword, prepares for about a second and rushes forward leaving a trail of purple slashes that damage the target.

    • Can be blocked
    • Low end-lag
    • Can be countered
    • Slow startup (Cons)
    15%CD 17.5 Seconds
  • 2Whirlwind Kick

After a short stance (0.3 to 0.5 seconds) that stuns the opponent, the user teleports and drives them downward with a spinning kick.

    • The stun is blockable but the kick is not
    • Can be countered
    • Mid end-lag on miss
    • Stun does not affect ragdolled players and does not reset the ragdoll timer
    12%CD 20 seconds
  • 3Scatter

After about a second of stance the user becomes a sphere of light and unleashes a relentless barrage of strikes on anyone caught, then dashes again and knocks the target back to the player's position.

    • Can't hit ragdolled players (except for the finisher)
    • Final hit cannot be blocked and forces the opponent to roll
    • Enemies blocking take increased knockback if the final hit connects
    • Evasion can be used during the hit
    • Safe on block
    • Can be countered
    • Not safe during the startup
    Up to 17%CD 21 seconds
  • 4Explosive Shuriken

The user throws a shuriken forward (about one second); if it hits a non-humanoid object it sticks and explodes after a delay. The Air Variant jumps and throws diagonally downward.

    • Can be reflected
    • On an already ragdolled player the opponent rolls up and forward
    • Air Variant: straighter with more downward momentum, harder to reflect, safe on miss
    • Air Variant · 10%; 7% if blocked; 7.7% if ragdolled — The player jumps and throws a shuriken diagonally downward; the more downward momentum, the straighter it goes.
15%; 10% if blocked; 10% (Air Variant); 7% if blocked (Air Variant); 8.6% if ragdolled; 7.7% if ragdolled (Air Variant)CD 17.6 Seconds

About Deadly Ninja

According to the wiki, Deadly Ninja is the only completed character whose awakening has no one-time-use move: Twinblade Rush, Straight On, Carnage and Fourfold Flashstrike can all be repeated while Can You Even See Me? runs for its 42 seconds. In that state side dashes become teleports, and it is the first awakening animation that lets you move. The wiki says its range, speed and damage per hit exceed those of other awakenings.

The base kit is built for hit-and-run: Flash Strike (15%, 17.5 seconds), Whirlwind Kick (12%, 20 seconds), Scatter (up to 17%, 21 seconds) and Explosive Shuriken (15%, 17.6 seconds, with an air variant at 10%). None of the base skills has armor, and nearly every move can be blocked or countered. The wiki is split on block-breaking: its Pros list Whirlwind Kick, Scatter's final hit and Explosive Shuriken, while its Cons name Explosive Shuriken as the only easy one. Explosive Shuriken can be reflected by Prey's Peril, Homerun, Shove and Psychic Barrier.

It appeared as Sonic in Early Access on April 27 2023 and became free on July 2 2023. It is based on Speed-o'-Sound Sonic. Its basic moveset adds up to 58.3 damage (53.3 with the aerial shuriken), one of the lowest totals, so its value lies in mobility rather than raw numbers. The wiki is not unanimous about the skill needed: the Pros list calls it ideal for beginners, while the introduction says mastering it takes precision.

What the wiki notes

  • Hit-and-run ranged character with a moveset built around mobility; nearly all moves can be blocked or countered.
  • Ultimate moves have large hitboxes and the wiki says awakening range, speed and damage per hit exceed other awakenings; none of its ultimate moves is single-use.
  • Base skills have no armor; Twinblade Rush and Fourfold Flashstrike give armor in the ultimate.
  • Its awakening animation is the first one that lets the user move.
  • Burst: The Two-fold World, a fast-startup circling attack with an afterimage (5% dispersing hits, 10% dual strike).
  • Finisher thresholds: Flash Strike 15%, Whirlwind Kick 16%, Scatter 10%, Explosive Shuriken 15%.
  • Explosive Shuriken can be deflected by Hero Hunter's Prey's Peril, Brutal Demon's Homerun, The Strongest Hero's Shove and Wild Psychic's Psychic Barrier.
  • Wiki notes it is the only completed character with no one-time-use move in its ultimate, and that Straight On is the second fastest move in the game.

Where the wiki disagrees

  • Awakening damage: this page shows Can You Even See Me? as 34% (10% barrage + 24 final hit, % sign missing in the source); the Awakening page says 35% for all hits.
  • Carnage: move table says 17.8%; The Strongest Hero's page says Deadly Ninja's Carnage deals a mere 18%.
  • M1 passive: this page's Trivia says it is one of only 3 characters without an M1 passive (with The Strongest Hero and Wild Psychic); The Strongest Hero's page says one of only 5 (Deadly Ninja, Brutal Demon, Wild Psychic, Tech Prodigy). The infobox here lists Ninjatō (M1) as a passive.
  • The Pros list mentions 'Easy ragdoll cancel when Supreme Speed is active'; 'Supreme Speed' is not defined anywhere else on the page (not used).
  • Block-breaking: the Pros list names Whirlwind Kick, Scatter's final hit and Explosive Shuriken as block-breaking, while the Cons list says it has no easy block-breaking attacks other than Explosive Shuriken.
  • Recommended players: Pros list calls it ideal for beginners; the intro says mastering it needs precision and skill. The Characters page gives no recommendation.
  • Awakening meter: no Deadly Ninja-specific value; 350 is the default stated on The Strongest Hero page.
  • Characters page damage ranking labels Deadly Ninja 10th, the same as Monster Form, although its 58.3 is lower than Monster Form's 60.6 and the same line calls it the second weakest; this site lists it 11th.
