How to get Martial Artist
Free to play (formerly Early Access). Updates page, December 21 2024 (the KJ update): 'Martial Artist became free with a new ultimate, new finishers, a new passive and awakening aura'.
Passives
Draconic Uppercut
Stronger Uppercut: after a final blow the right fist is wrapped in a purple flame-like aura and the next mini-uppercut releases a dragon that bites the enemy, shakes them in the air and throws them to the left, creating a huge crater. Adds 12.5% to the mini-uppercut (up to 16.5%), bypasses block on the uppercut; once used it cannot be used again until another finishing blow is secured (the same cell also says it has unlimited uses until the ultimate is over). In the base moveset the throw is weaker (side-dash distance); in awakening the throw goes much farther and the uppercut no longer guard breaks.
Void Fist
Listed as a passive in the infobox; the page describes it in the M1 row: the limbs are wrapped in purple trails with a black outline and white inner gradient.
Base moves
M1 Void Fist โ Four hits: a right punch, a left hop roundhouse kick, a low kick with the right leg and a left punch. Fast swing rate and fast startup (12 frames); the wiki says one of the fastest M1s in the game. The page lists no M1 damage value.
- 1Bullet Barrage
The user unleashes a barrage of kicks that launches the opponent into the air three times before slamming them into the ground.
- Multiple hits after the initial burst
- Can be blocked
- Can hit ragdolled players
- Rolls the opponent on the final hit
- The AoE can be blocked (full damage but no ragdoll) and cannot be countered
- The knockback deals 1 additional point of damage
- The ragdoll state can be cancelled to escape
- Finisher triggers at 20%: the user surfs on the opponent's back and drops down with a leg attack; the slam deals 15% AOE and cannot be countered by Death Counter or Death Blow
15.1% [5 (Kick barrage) + 1 + 1 + 1 + 1 (Ascending kicks) + 4 (Crash) + ? (Rolling slide, damage varies)] | 15% (AoE)CD 20 Seconds - 2Vanishing Kick
The user dashes forward with afterimages and kicks the opponent with a burst of void energy. After a landed kick, pressing the input again triggers a dash, a backflip and a powerful downward strike.
- Cannot be blocked (the same cell also says 'Increase knockback if blocked')
- Decreased knockback and a small crater on ragdolled opponents
- Opponents roll in the direction kicked
- Can hit ragdolled opponents
- Can be countered
- Second press: 3.5 second timeframe, pulls the user to the opponent (infinite range), cannot be blocked, cannot be activated if the first kick missed, Armor during the animation, can be countered, can interrupt and replace other skills (including the wall combo) except a landed Head First
- Finisher triggers at 15%: kick, leg clamp around the head, spin and slam, then a leap and second slam that breaks the spine; the final slam deals 15% AOE and cannot be countered by Death Counter or Death Blow
7.5% | 12% (Colliding Damage) | 12% (Double Press)CD 23 Seconds - 3Whirlwind Drop
The user leaps into the air while spiralling, then slams down to cause a shockwave.
- AoE
- Ragdolls standing opponents; blocking opponents take full damage but do not ragdoll
- Does not go up if used immediately after M1 hits (except the 4th M1)
- Can be interrupted during a very short window
- Safe on block and on miss
- Can be countered
- Finisher triggers at 12%: three stomps on landing, up to 22.5% AOE; the finisher can be countered (Prey's Peril, Split Second Counter, Spiraling Storm)
12%CD 15 Seconds - 4Head First
A spin kick launches the opponent, then the user kicks off the ground with their arms to hit the face with both legs, grabs the opponent at the peak and plummets while spiralling to slam them into the ground.
- Can break guard, but if blocked the damage is reduced and the opponent cannot be grabbed
- Has an unblockable AoE attack
- Can grab opponents on the ground
- Grabbing an opponent also damages surrounding enemies
- Grants Armor upon hitting
- Finisher triggers at 19.5%: the target is thrown high, then a flame-wreathed kick leaves them charred; the victim's AOE deals 15% and cannot be countered by Death Counter or Death Blow
17.5% | 30% (AoE and Initial) | 1% (blocked)CD 20 Seconds
Awakening
G Dragon's Descent
Meter: Not stated on the Martial Artist page; the standard is 350 damage per The Strongest Hero page.
Duration: 42 Seconds (stated only in the Cons list, 'on par with Deadly Ninja')
Activation: the user is covered in purple smoke and summons a large purple dragon that roars, creating a shockwave, then dives into the ground and dissipates into gas (20%; the dive has Armor Break, AoE, increases the ragdoll timer). The kit then becomes Grand Fissure, Twin Fangs, Earth Splitting Strike and Last Breath, with the Draconic Uppercut throw reaching farther. Previously named 'Dragon's Embrace' and 'Dragon's Descendant'.
Awakening moves
- 1Grand Fissure
The user jumps and slams a fist into the ground, raising a platform that launches opponents; after a brief delay the platform falls, hurting and launching them again.
- Can be interrupted at any time during the attack
- Effective range of 4.5 squares
- Cannot be blocked
- Cannot be countered (Prey's Peril, Split Second Counter)
- The initial hit can bypass Death Counter and Death Blow; the final hit can too if you use another move or an emote (likely a bug)
- Finisher triggers at 25%: dragon cutscene finisher, 35% damage to anyone in front of the player at short range, slows the awakening timer, I-Frames during the finisher, cannot be countered by Death Counter or Death Blow
Up to 50% [25% (Platform Rise) + 25% (Platform Fall)]CD 16 Seconds - 2Twin Fangs
The user charges forward with a flurry of clawing Void Fist blows, finishes with a head kick, wraps a leg around the opponent's head, spins and slams them into the ground, leaving a small crater.
- Multi grab
- Grab-type move
- Startup can be cancelled
- Gains Armor during the attack (whether or not it hits anyone)
- Cannot be blocked
- Can be countered (Prey's Peril, Split Second Counter)
- Can grab grounded opponents
- Can hit and ragdoll other players during the attack, up to a maximum of 35% damage
40%CD 15 Seconds - 3Earth Splitting Strike
The user stomps to send shockwaves forward; a hit enemy is launched from a spawned platform, then the user teleports in front, a purple dragon cutscene plays and a finishing punch to the chest causes a purple explosion.
- Grab-type move
- Can be cancelled any time during startup (as long as the player is hit before a shockwave touches a target)
- Gains I-Frames on a successful hit and during the cutscene
- Can be countered (Prey's Peril, Split Second Counter)
- Cannot hit directly in front of the user
- Shockwaves can be aimed with Shift Lock
- Skill duration depends on how far the user was from the target at the first attack
61%CD 30 Seconds - 4Last Breath
After a cutscene of the user stretching and their heart catching fire, they sprint forward, slam the target, chase them in a zigzag, uppercut them skyward and finish with a flaming dragon-powered kick, producing a huge explosion and crater.
- Grab-type move
- Startup can be interrupted (right before the heart appears)
- Armor 1 second after use and dash and a bit after the cutscene ends; if nobody is hit in time the user can be interrupted
- I-Frames on hit and during the cutscene
- Sprint direction can be aimed with Shift Lock
- Cannot be countered (Prey's Peril, Split Second Counter)
- Bypasses Death Counter and Death Blow
- Destroys Tech Prodigy's Iron Giant awakening on hit

About Martial Artist
Every one of Martial Artist's base moves is a kick, which the wiki reads as a nod to Suiryu, the One-Punch Man character it is based on, who goes easy on opponents by using only his legs. The set is Bullet Barrage (15.1%, 20 seconds), Vanishing Kick (7.5%, 23 seconds), Whirlwind Drop (12%, 15 seconds) and Head First (17.5%, with 30% for the AoE, 20 seconds). Together they come to 65.1, seventh in the wiki's ranking, or 51.1 if Head First is blocked.
The passive Draconic Uppercut matters after a finisher: the next mini-uppercut releases a dragon, adds 12.5% (up to 16.5%) and bypasses block. The wiki says this is a close-quarters kit that works best from neutral and lacks a powerful unblockable combo against ragdoll canceling; every attack except Vanishing Kick has very limited range.
Dragon's Descent, the awakening, lasts 42 seconds according to the Cons list alone (the general Awakening page says 45). It brings Grand Fissure (up to 50%), Twin Fangs (40%), Earth Splitting Strike (61%) and Last Breath (85%, one use, bypasses Death Counter and Death Blow). The character spent six months in Early Access and became free on December 21 2024 in the KJ update.
What the wiki notes
- Eighth character, based on Suiryu; its base moveset is all kicks, a reference to Suiryu going easy on opponents by only using kicks.
- Close-quarters kit that works best from neutral: the wiki says it lacks a powerful unblockable combo to counter ragdoll canceling, and every attack except Vanishing Kick has very limited range.
- Draconic Uppercut passive adds a dragon to the next mini-uppercut after a finisher (+12.5%, up to 16.5%, bypasses block).
- Awakening has three grab moves (Twin Fangs, Earth Splitting Strike, Last Breath) and Grand Fissure, the first ultimate move with a proper finisher; Last Breath and the first hit of Grand Fissure bypass Death Counter and Death Blow, while Twin Fangs and Earth Splitting Strike can be countered.
- Last Breath has no armor in the first seconds of startup or while running, and near a wall the user can phase through and fall into the void after the cutscene.
- Vanishing Kick is the only reliable combo follow-up from the wall combo (Void Strikes), which sends the opponent far to the right.
- Awakening duration is listed as 42 seconds, one of the shortest.
- Characters page ranks its basic-moveset total at 65.1 damage (51.1 if Head First is blocked), 7th of the list; Rising Fist was an earlier awakening move replaced by Grand Fissure.
Martial Artist techs
- Head First M1 ResetUse Head First, face yourself, spam Front Dash, and the moment you front dash, enable shift-lock to turn around and hit the enemy.
- Whirlwind KickHold M1 whilst using Vanishing Kick, and when your M1 connects, use Whirlwind Drop. Wait and use Vanishing Kick again.
- Whirlwind StopJump and M1 whilst going onto the enemy's head, using Whirlwind Drop immediately. Same methodology as the Hunter's Grasp uppercut. Once performed, do a front dash or another move as a surprise.
- Rockstar ResetUse Bullet Barrage, and right as they begin rolling your Head First must connect. Face the direction they began rolling and spam Front Dash.
- Draconic SupaPerform a dragon uppercut at a 45 degree angle to an opponent whilst walking into them. Shiftlock setting does not matter.
- Supa Splitting StrikePerform a Draconic Supa and use Earth Splitting Strike at about 3/4 of the total height. Turn the camera around to move the shockwave to where the dragon is. Do it correctly and it will automatically hit.
- Draconic FissurePerform a dragon uppercut, Side Dash left, face left, and summon Grand Fissure right as the dragon thrashes left.
- Fissure FangsPerform a Draconic Fissure. When the second plate falls, immediately use Twin Fangs. Use Earth Splitting Strike as backup.
Where the wiki disagrees
- Whirlwind Drop finisher: the Info cell says 'Up to 22.5% AOE damage (5% + 12.5% + 10%)' which adds to 27.5%, while Pros say '22.5% (5% + 7.5% + 10%)'. The 22.5% total is used.
- Earth Splitting Strike: the move table says the user gains I-Frames on a successful hit and during the cutscene, but Cons say it leaves the user vulnerable at the end of the cutscene 'due to the lack of I-Frames'.
- Vanishing Kick: the same cell says 'Can't be blocked' and 'Increase knockback if blocked'.
- Pros say 'Three of the four moves are hard to punish', while Cons say '3/4 of its moves have high endlag'.
- Awakening duration (42 Seconds) is not in the Dragon's Descent table; it appears only in the Cons list. The Awakening page gives a general 45 seconds.
- Icon: the infobox uses 'Martial Artist.png' (caption 'Character icon (Old)'), the Characters page uses 'Martial Artist icon.png'; the Characters page icon is used.
- Free-to-play date: only the December 21 2024 KJ update mention exists; the Early Access start date is not on the Updates page (trivia says 6 months in Early Access).
- The page carries the 'Removed' (cut content archive) banner and lists Rising Fist and Last Breath V1 as removed moves.
