Where Louie appears

Louie guide

Louie is the only entity that trades with you, and he only does it from inside a tunnel-like hole in The Mines. He looks like a rat with the nose of a star-nosed mole and is 9 cm tall. He arrived with The Content Update on December 20, 2024, and is widely considered guaranteed before Door 150.

How the trade works

Drop an item next to his hole and he comes out, looks at you, grabs it and retreats, leaving you a random item of the same or higher value. He refuses Batteries, Bandages, Candy, Aloes, Knockback Sticks, modifier or event items and Holy Hand Grenades. Each Louie stops emerging once you have dropped two or more items in total, so choose carefully. Items come from three pools: Glowsticks or Lighters get you something like Bread, Cheese, a Candle or a Tip Jar, while a Shakelight can return a Skeleton Key or a Bulklight. He never gives back the same item you gave.

Special trades

A Moonlight Candle, Moonlight Float, Starlight Bottle, Rift Jar or Lotus returns 2 items; a Starlight Jug returns 4. Offering a Crucifix also returns 4 random items but crucifies that Louie, so look for another tunnel. A Smoothie, which is common, can land in the best pool. Louie also swaps any module from The Stairwell for the EGG module that holds Charles.
