Flimsy Rod review
Every Fisch player starts somewhere, and Flimsy Rod is that somewhere: it costs C$0 at Moosewood and every combat-relevant stat is zero. Luck 0 ranks 176th of 184 obtainable rods, Lure Speed 0 is 174th of 184, Control 0 is 141st of 185 and Resilience 0 is 161st of 184. Its weight cap is just 10.4 kg, 111th of 117 rods that list one.
Those numbers mean you will lose heavy fish, and rarer ones will be hard to find. The wiki's own line calls it weak and unreliable but able to get the job done, which is honest. It also carries a masteries tag, so it is not entirely devoid of progression.
Use it only as long as it takes to earn the first real upgrade. Moosewood also sells Fast Rod, Crew Rod, Lucky Rod, Long Rod and Haunted Rod, and several of those cost a few thousand C$ yet offer far more Luck or speed. For example, Lucky Rod is the better early choice if rarity is your goal, while Fast Rod is the pick for quicker bites.
There is no reason to keep it once you can afford anything else. Sell nothing you catch below the price of your first upgrade, and move on.
