Plastic Rod review
Moosewood is the starting town, and the Plastic Rod is sold there for just C$750. The wiki quote promises ABS plastic you can trust to last, and it is a fair summary: this is a beginner's rod, built to be bought first and replaced later.
The numbers explain why. Luck of 15 is 173rd of 184 obtainable rods, Lure Speed of 20 is 161st, Control of 0 is 141st of 185, and Resilience of 10 is 129th. Its weight cap of 100 kg is 108th of 117 rods that list one, so heavy fish are out of reach. There is no passive.
It also has direct competition. Friendly Rod (luck 105, C$0), Mission Specialist's Rod (luck 60, C$0) and Original No-Life Rod (luck 100, C$1) all cost less and carry more Luck. If you can get any of those, they beat the Plastic Rod on price and stats. Moosewood also sells the Flimsy Rod, Fast Rod, Crew Rod, Lucky Rod and Long Rod, so there is a lot to compare in the same town.
Verdict: buy it only if you have nothing and need a rod right now. As soon as you can afford the Lucky Rod or the Long Rod next door, move on, because the Plastic Rod is outclassed almost everywhere.
