Anyone planning to fish in harmful liquid should look at the Reinforced Rod, sold in Desolate Deep for C$20,000. The wiki says it is crafted from a metal stronger than diamond, which is what lets it work in any harmful liquid, and it carries a passive.
As a general rod it is unimpressive. Luck of 65 is 145th of 184 obtainable rods, Lure Speed of 40 is 146th, Control of 0.1 is 76th of 185, and Resilience of 15 is 105th. No stat reaches even the middle of the table, except Control, which is only roughly average. So this is a rod you buy for the location, not for the numbers.
On price, it is easy to beat. Brick Rod (luck 75, C$13,337), Friendly Rod (luck 105, C$0) and Cupid's Embrace (luck 214, C$15,000) all cost less and give more Luck. Trident Rod is the only other rod sold in Desolate Deep, so it is the natural thing to compare against.
Verdict: if your plan is to farm Desolate Deep and the liquid is the obstacle, this rod does the job and the passive is the point. For any other situation, spend the C$20,000 on Cupid's Embrace or a similar option and you will catch rarer fish with a faster rod.
