Alpha Wolf — In-Depth Analysis
The Alpha Wolf is a beefed-up wolf variant, and its numbers back that up: 125 HP, 25 damage, and a fast walkspeed of 26, paired with an increased detection range that makes it hard to sneak past. It is genuinely Hostile, so once it locks on it will close distance quickly — do not try to outrun it across open forest, because that speed lets it stay on your heels.
The smart approach is to fight it with a teammate or a strong melee weapon and burst it down rather than trade hits, since 25 per swing chunks an unprepared survivor fast. Bait its lunge, sidestep, and punish. The payoff is solid: it reliably drops 2-3 Morsel and a Steak for food, sometimes an Alpha Wolf Pelt for crafting, and crucially a chance at a Blue Key (0-1) — a real reason to hunt one when you need cave or chest access.
If you would rather recruit it, the taming cost is Steak x4, Mackerel x4, and Salmon x4, a meaty fish-and-meat bundle. A tamed Alpha Wolf becomes a fast, hard-hitting guard, which is excellent value given how dangerous it is as an enemy.
