Darkstring Cultist
Entity in 99 Nights in the Forest · Hostile
About
Darkstring Cultists are similar to a Crossbow Cultist, but fire two bolts at a time and reload twice as fast. They are normally only found in the sidechambers of the Caverns, but in Hard Mode they can spawn during Night Raids. They are seemingly worshippers of The Bat. Darkstring Cultist — In-Depth Analysis
The Darkstring Cultist is a souped-up ranged threat and one of the nastier surprises in the late game. It is Hostile, carries 120 HP, moves at medium walkspeed, and deals high damage. What sets it apart from a normal Crossbow Cultist is its output: it fires two bolts at a time and reloads twice as fast, so a single Darkstring can pour out more projectiles than several ordinary archers combined.
You will mostly meet it in the sidechambers of the Caverns, where it lurks off the main path, but the real danger is Hard Mode, where it can spawn during Night Raids and bring that double-bolt barrage straight to your Campfire. Lore-wise it is tied to The Bat rather than the Deer cult, which fits its cave-dwelling habits.
To fight it, close the distance fast or use cover, because trading shots at range plays directly into its rapid fire. With 120 HP it is not a quick kill, so commit with a strong melee weapon and burst it down before its second volley lands. In the Caverns, peek sidechambers carefully and pull it into a corridor; on Hard Mode raids, prioritise it over weaker cultists.
