Corrupted Wolf — In-Depth Analysis

The Corrupted Wolf is a hostile entity in 99 Nights in the Forest and the Hard Mode version of the regular wolf. It has 75 HP, deals 20 damage and moves at a walkspeed of 23. It spawns in The Forest once Hard Mode is activated and in the Rift, and wolves can appear anywhere at night.

It wanders until a player enters its detection radius or damages it. From then on it chases the player until one of them dies or the player escapes, and after striking it sometimes runs a short distance away. If a pet attacks it, it switches to targeting the pet until a player attacks it again.

On death it can drop 2-3 Rotten Morsels, 1 Rotten Steak and 0-1 Wolf Pelt. Corrupted wolves come in groups, so melee weapons work well, but good kiting is needed to avoid taking damage. Ranged weapons also work, though relying only on them takes a long time.

With an Old Taming Flute or better you can start the taming minigame, after which it asks for a Morsel and a Steak, repeated three times. The wiki ties several badges to wolf drops. Hunting is for completing all of the Pelt Trader's quests, Knitting is for crafting 10 items of warm clothing, Hunter is for getting 50 pelt drops from animals, and Supporting is for killing 50 enemies while near a teammate.
