The headline feature is that a flashlight beam can stun The Deer, The Owl and The Ram — three of the game's most dangerous nighttime threats — buying you precious seconds to reposition, land hits, or simply run.
The catch is the battery: every flashlight holds a finite charge that drains with use, so it is not something to leave on while wandering. You recharge it at the Campfire or near fireflies, which means smart players keep the beam off until a boss actually shows, then burn battery only during the encounter. Running dry at the wrong moment leaves you exposed, so battery discipline is the whole skill ceiling here.
You can pick flashlights up from Chests, the Pelt Trader, and the Watch Tower, making them reasonably accessible without a crafting investment. For survival value they are close to essential on any run where the special creatures spawn: the stun window can be the difference between a clean kill and a wipe. Grab one early, keep it charged, and save the beam for when it genuinely counts.
