The Hammer is a tool that can be used to move structures at your Campfire. To use a Hammer, you have to equip it and see if the nearby Furniture becomes yellow once selected, and then you can pick up the selected Furniture. However, the teleporter doesn't allow you to pick it up, being the only placeable crafted structure that can't be moved or picked up with a Hammer. The Hammer can't grab defensive blueprints, such as the Barbed Wire and Stakes.

Hammer — In-Depth Analysis
The Hammer is a utility tool, not a weapon or food, so it does nothing for hunger or fighting. Its single job is rearranging your base: equip it, hover over nearby furniture until the piece glows yellow, and you can pick it up and reposition it around your Campfire. That makes it the go-to fix for a sloppy first build or for tightening up your defensive layout.
There are real limits worth knowing. The teleporter is the only crafted structure the Hammer can't move or pick up, and it also can't grab defensive blueprints like Barbed Wire and Stakes, so plan those placements carefully the first time. Everything else is fair game for repositioning.
You can grab one cheaply at spawn through the Decorator, Blacksmith, and Engineer classes, or craft it at the Tool Workshop for 5 Logs and 5 Scrap. Given how trivial the cost is, it's well worth keeping one in your stash. It won't help you survive a raid, but a clean, optimized base layout absolutely does over a long run, and the Hammer is the only way to correct mistakes without scrapping and rebuilding from scratch.
