Honey Spear — In-Depth Analysis
The Honey Spear is a melee weapon in 99 Nights in the Forest that you buy from the Beekeeper NPC, found at the Beekeeper's house in the Bee Biome. It costs 100 Pollens, so it becomes available once you have gathered enough from that biome. It looks like the regular Spear, but with a birch-colored shaft, a yellow honey grip and a bee stinger at the tip.
It swings once every 0.5 seconds and deals 25 to 40 damage. Brawler raises that to 32.5 to 52, and a fully boosted Berserker reaches 40 to 64. The wiki describes it as an early to mid game option that outputs more damage per second than other early weapons such as Axes and the Revolver, with the tradeoff that you risk taking damage while using it.
The main tip is to use its extra reach. You can hit an enemy and avoid retaliation by running in circles around it, which is the usual and preferred method. Another method is to backpedal while sprinting, stop briefly to thrust, and resume backpedaling just before the attack animation finishes, aiming slightly high. Brawler gets quicker kills this way, but any class can do it. The Bear is harder to handle with these tricks because its large attack range makes it more likely to hit you.
The wiki also notes that melee saves ammo and works well against groups, since it has high DPS and area damage. One player claims that a skilled user can kill a Bear without being hit, even with no armor.
